I really like this song, it's sunny and has great rhythms, a slightly woozy trumpet, indecipherable lyrics, builds up to a good crescendo and then buggers off before the three minute mark.
If any of you 'Spillers can tell me what genre it belongs to, there'll be a fun prize winging its way to your inbox!
EXCENTRIEK is my new favourite genre...think this fits
ReplyDelete(yes I've been listening to the 78s from TonNLs link..and goind ond a tour of Dutch record labels as a result)
That's a great name for a genre, did you make that up yourself?
ReplyDeleteThose 78s were cool.
No Blimpy.. jazz and excentriek. is the listings on the Dutch 78s site..I just thought it described a large portion of my collection (the excentriek bit not the jazz, novice there)
ReplyDeleteWith the Dutch spelling it would look great in graphics too..
spill excentriek could be a whole movement!!!
The dutch spelling is excellent.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should do a whole playlist of "Excentrax" of excentriek musiek?!
Great song, killer video. I Wiki-ed them and it says they're from New Zealand. Are they not singing entirely in English?
ReplyDeleteI have no idea, I'm watching the album on ebay, and hopefully I'll be able to get it for a couple of quid!
ReplyDeletepacific eco pop, perhaps..
ReplyDeleteTane Mahuta is the Maori god of forests and trees. The other few words of the song are also Maori.

I used to go jogging in the bit of forest that gets zoomed into in the video... didn't see anyone in animal costumes eloping with babies, though...
