Another Lyrics Quiz

OK, another lyrics quiz.

Yes, it is hot, we went out and now I want to cool off.

These quiz thingys are addictive.

Here goes, 20 songs, some easy, some not;

1) "You been down to the bottom with a bad man, babe
But you're back were you belong"

2) "I never will forget those nights
I wonder if it was a dream
Remember how you made me crazy
Remember how I made you scream"

3) "There'll be lots of time and wine.
Red yellow honey, sassafras and moonshine"

4) "Tears of joy at the birth of a brother
Never alone from that time"

5) "Put on your night shirt and your morning gown
You know by night I'm gonna shake 'em down"

6) "I would rock my soul in the bosom of Abraham
I would hold my life in his saving grace."

7) "He's in love with rock'n'roll, whoa
He's in love with gettin' stoned, whoa"

8) "Copperdome bodhi drip a silver kimono,
Like a crazy quilt stargown through a dream night wind"

9) "Been worried about my babies, been worried about my wife
Just one place for a man to be when he's worried about his life"

10) "Singing sweet savages lost in our world
This big eyed-girl sees her faces unfurl"

11) "There is no pain, you are receding
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon"

12) "Little skinny girl she's doing it for the first time
Little skinny girl she's doing it and it feels fine"

13) "Begged and borrowed sometimes, I admit I even stole
The worse crime that I ever did was playing rock 'n roll"

14) "Suddenly my eyes went so soft and shaky
I knew there was pain but pain is not aching"

15) "Whatabout the time?
You were rollin' over
Fall on your face
You must be having fun"

16) "Crawling down the alley on your hands and knee
I'm sure you're not protected, for it's plain to see"

17) "Watching it burn, all Halloween
Orange and chimney red."

18) "Hold my head
We'll trampoline
Finally through the roof"

19) "Don't let your heartbeat beat keep you safe
No telling what keeps me awake"

20) "Just get me wasted
An you're half-way there
Cause if my minds tore up
Then my body don't care"

  1. Aren't they just! Got number one but shall leave it for the other guys. However Don Henley's Boys of Summer at 2 is mine. Forever. Off back out. Just popped in to empty the washing machine. Dry in 2 hours if I hang it all out!

  2. 17 is Frank's Wild years, I think. (Tom Waits)

  3. No.7 and no.13 both come from the first part of the same year, no? 7 is a hymn to a queen of both vice and payola; the title of 13 includes some unnecessarily faffy punctuation. Anybody else know 'em?

  4. Just got no.3 - the title could be summarised as "the spirit of St Stephen enjoys a hot thermos on a tartan blanket" (taps side of nose enigmatically).

  5. 12 is the slightly dodgy Teenage Lust by the extremely dodgy Jesus and Mary Chain.

Not a clue on the others!

  7. Thought I'd see how people were getting on.

FP has 1 and 2 right, ToffeeBoy is correct about 12, treefrogdemon has 6 and steenbeck has 17.

Shiv's enigmatic hints tell me that 3, 7 and 13 may go soon too.

Incidentally, and I doubt that this is much of a clue, I used to live around the corner from the subject of #7 and used to see her all the time, just walking around.

  8. 15 talking heads slippery people
    love this

  9. You've had your time, people. 13 was The Stranglers: "(Get A) Grip (On Yourself)". And - from the ridiculous to the sublime - 3 is "Stoned Soul Picnic" by the very lovely Laura Nyro.

(Must admit to having cheated and checked a few others... here's a clue for no.16 - this ain't rock'n'roll!)

3 Laura Nyro Stoned Soul Picnic
8 The Clash Janie Jones (she used to live in Campden Hill Rd when I lived on Notting hill Gate)

  20. Cheers, Gordon.

And I've got Nos. 8, 9 and 20 now too, but in those three cases only by cheating ... I don't own any (though I had to check that for two of the artists) so I won't ruin it.
