On a brighter note, at least he got to play in the reformed Stooges again before he died. I read more than one interview where he expressed his longing for The Ig to give him a call and get the band back together. Reminds me a bit of Arthur Kane in that respect.
I had the luck to see Ron Asheton at work two times, first time as Asheton, Asheton, Mascis & Watt at the Belgian Pukkelpop Festival doing a brilliant Stooges tribute, and a couple of years later at the same festival with Iggy as the Stooges, who would have thought that.... It was amazing!

That's really sad, especially about him not being found for several days. I saw him live several times and it was always a great performance.
