Your favourite soaring chorus

How about this one?

Or this?

Who doesn't have a soft spot for at least one (possibly 'guilty pleasure'-based) soaring refrain?

Come on! Tell us all on a Tuesday...what's your favourite chorus exploder?

  1. No such thing as "guilty pleasures" for us Balearic types; we wear our pleasures proudly on our (record)sleeves. Here's a particular favourite: guaranteed arms-in-the-air singalonga chorus mayhem amongst our crowd.

  2. Oh Christ, that'll be a megalist!

Have to be tomorrow, but in the meantime, can I beat Snadfrod to Elbow's On A Day Like This? Guy Garvey is a regular production line of these, but the current album's

    "So throw those curtains wide,
One day like this a year'd see me right!"

is possibly his best yet; just crying out for huge, arms in the air, feelgood festy singalongs.

  5. I came here to post On A Day Like This too. By midway through the Olympics last year I was actively cheering for Australia.

(I'd cheer for Canada, but cheering is a catharsis and it was slim pickings for the first week)

  6. Cheers DsD, I would have had it too...

Also by Elbow - Forget Myself.

One that creeps up on you without warning:

    Glorious - Andreas Johnson

One that just keeps giving and giving and giving:

    Funeral - Band of Horses

One from the undisputed masters of the genre:

    Ashes - Embrace.

I LOVE soaring choruses SO MUCH.

    Oooh oooh ooh,

Two Thousand Places - Polyphonic Spree. And many more...

  7. Donds for Without You.

    How about, for starters:

    Shorley Wall - Ooberman
The You And Me Song - The Wannadies
Ain't That Enough - Teenage Fanclub

Back with more - I love a good chorus, me.

  8. Probs something off Siamese Dream - "Rocket" fair takes off (arf!) but not necessarily in the chorus. "Today" then.

  9. Actually I was thinking that I love how Mos Def's Casa Bey starts with s a simple funky bassline, and without me realising it, ends with horns and multiple synths, via a soaring chorus.

  10. It seems to me with this one, its all taste in the end. I liked the Lou Christie song from the first time I heard it on release; likewise, I was delighted to hear Elenore featured heavily in the latest Richard Curtis confection (and not half a bad film to boot). I thought about including 'Keep it a secret' by Jay Jay Johanson, just for some variety, but actually its maybe even hard to nail exactly the soaring chorus idea, except that its got something to do with the overall weight the chorus has in terms of the songs impact.

As much as I love 'Dont leave me this way' for example, the soaring chorus doesnt contain the name of the song in that obvious way, so its not what I was thinking of in exactum.

The Wannadies track is much closer and even lovelier for me.

Off to check out some of these others you've mentioned.

    Groovy.

  12. Jingle bells!

Actually, for some reason the clips you posted made me think of Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline. Not sure I'd call it a favorite, though.
