Carole, it works. I love 'Exiles', it reminds me of listening to Radio Caroline in bed when I was supposed to be asleep. "Book of Saturday" is good too. The radio used to fall down the side of the bed in the night and the ariel got very bent!
Normally I won't even open McGee's blogs because I don't want to add to the number of hits he gets so it's very unnerving indeed to have to agree with him.
Just for form's sake, do you think I should post a list of the inaccuracies in his piece? It may be possible to prove he is still just posing; whilst, at the same time, getting some quality Dead time.....
DsD/Carole, is that 'Sanvean' from Dead Can Dance's 'Toward The Within' or Lisa Gerrard's solo version? The former is stunning, I think I recommended it for the 'songs that make you cry' playlist.
Carole - Found your folder in the box. Always good to hear BRMC & DCD, but the John Martyn was the surprise for me - no idea he was so jazzy. Enjoyed that one a lot. Cheers.

ReplyDeleteAnd I'm now on my third playing of the stunning Dead Can Dance Sanvean, which I'm ashamed to say, I'd never heard of.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Carole.
Hi Carole! Have you seen this on the Graun music blogs:
ReplyDeleteMcGee on music: Why the Grateful Dead were Americana pioneers
It's very unnerving having to agree with Alan McGee....!
Not read that Chris, I usually avoid McGee's columns.
ReplyDeleteI'll have a look.
Isn't it odd to see more positive than negative comments about the Dead in a blog?!
ReplyDeleteIf only it had been someone more credible kicking it off...

ReplyDeleteNot only did I open it, I posted too.

ReplyDeletebtw, Deadheads, the tennis player Mardy Fish said in an interview that his fans call themselves Fishheads.
ReplyDeleteTee hee!

ReplyDelete@Catcher - it is the Dead Can Dance version.
ReplyDelete@Shoey - John Martyn has done quite a few jazzy things. Inside Out is a very eclectic album. I thought that track might surprise people a bit.
He used to perform live in a trio with Danny Thompson and John Stevens, the free jazz drummer.
Amazing interplay between the three musicians at times.
