Found this picture on the web and thought I'd post it. At least one of you - mentioning no names, Toffeeboy - will have noticed that this week marked the return of my favourite ever group Prefab Sprout. They come from Witton Gilbert - just down the road from where I grew up. I'm a little younger than Paddy - he's 52 and I'm 43 - but I still fantasize about having unknowingly been in the same pub as them. I've actually taken French friends to be photographed next to the 'Langley Park' roadsign - also a place just down the road. The new album Let's change the world with music is out and it's a blinder - both lyrically and musically. The afficionados amongst you will know that this album followed 'Jordan' chronologically - so they were at the top of their game. I'd love to hear if anyone has bought it and what you think. I won't review it here as the GU and Observer chaps have already given it a stellar write-up. No. I just wanted to post a link to a very nice interview with Paddy which you can download here. He sounds fantastically nice and has the same accent as I do, except from the "ay" sounds which are a bit flatter than mine. But then the 10 KM make all the distance.Welcome back, maestro. We missed you....
Kudos to Toffee! If you google LCTWWM, your October 2008 post is the second result! Howzabout that? FP.
ReplyDeleteFP, are you just dots now?
ReplyDelete@ ....
ReplyDeleteWow! Thta's a pretty impressive Google result - although I seem to be down to third now ;o(
As you might have guessed, I have bought the album and have listened to little else this week - I haven't even had as much time to join in the middle-eight fun on the mothership as I'd have liked but some things have to be sacrificed for the greater good.
It is indeed a wonderful album, dated but not in a bad way - it's simply of its time. Earth, The Story So Far is the stand out track for me.
Apparently the sales have been good - should be in the top twenty - possibly even top ten - which hopefully will encourage Sony to release some of the other 50 or so albums which Paddy apparently has ready to go in his studio!
I hadn't realised quite how local to Paddy and the Sprouts you were, btw.
Thanks for posting this - stops me from sounding like a broken record!
Yup Blimpy - I've morphed into Dot Cotton. It's just that I have a blog for professional use under the same ID and Frogprincess was a bit odd.
ReplyDeleteToffee - I'll glady add my blip to the record. Witton Gilbert just down the road and I love lstening to him talk - sounds like home. Loving the album.... FP.
Shall we just call you Ellip, sis?
