Lazy weekend for gremlinfc...

Get up you lazy bugger!
Stop lounging around there's fun to be had!
Oh but all this rain and impending darkness is making me sleepy - 3 weeks and the clocks go back but alas energy is running out...another blockbuster the Gremlinfc had a hand in was this wonderful tale of clean living , 9-to-5 work and fun-fun-fun, but it was exhausting and quite de-press-ing:
So, what's the fillum?
Who's the character?
Why are they lying down?
Further question to follow...

  1. Hmmm. Is it McGregor (Renton?) or is it the football-playing clean-cut drug-disapprover-turned-junkie, whose name I can't remember?
Either way it's from Trainspotting, and when you've sold all your furniture to buy smack, there's nowhere left to sit!

  2. La "pinicula" (fillum) is Trainspotting.

  3. @DsD - you're coming in hot sunshine no hanging around there!Deux points for you!
@mr.Maki - pipped by padre de darcey.

  4. What's the connection to the Proclaimers?

  5. Fantastico...more specifically?
Also which song on the soundrack is the "laziest" (slowest groove...) ?

  6. Cheers gremlin.

D'yunno most of my 'Spill points come from you? I figure it's because we both seem to get our 'Spill creativity urges at similar times.
And I'm no film buff - the last film I went to the cinema to see without kids in tow was The Truman Show!!
So I'm not griping, just querying: why 2 points? Which answer missed the target?

  7. Sorry DsD re-ajudication gives you 3 for the smack reference - so it's a hat-trick!
Gave a mini-review of the new Shane Meadows fillum ovver on RR which saw tonight - see it if you can ("Le Donk and Scor-zay-zee") - wicked!
I'm a night owl so tend to do stuff now when family gone to get their Zeds...

  8. Quite agree Mr. Maki - great point to you : also LOVE ""Nightclubbing" with that oh-so-slow pendulum-like groove...

    ReplyDelete
  9. For specifics re Proclaimers is it a Hibs footie shirt? And agree about Nightclubbing, of course

  10. Fillum title comes from the toilet at Leith Central Railway Station where Begbie & Renton meet Begbie's old man who asks them if they're "trainspottin"...Just listened to Iggy singing it and it is SO laid back- almost horizontal...

  12. Leith Station doesn't exist anymore, and Leith itself has become gentrified over the last decade - tons of yuppie flats and that.

    Is it Falling Down?

  13. Here comes the Blimpster...he looks like he could have fallen down Mr. B , but suspicion is he got a SMACK which put him on the floor...

  14. DsD: Trivia corner - "the football-playing clean-cut drug-disapprover-turned-junkie" (who dies of AIDS) is Tommy. One reason you forgot him might be that, unlike the rest of the characters, he didn't appear on the posters for the film. The story is that Kevin McKidd had promised his girlfriend they'd go on holiday as soon as filming ended, and so he missed the photo-shoot for the poster.

  15. @TFD - that's good fillum-info and puts a bit of polish on the thang - ta very much! Point to you...
Here's a trivia question : who does Ewan MacGregor support and what is McKidd's connection with marbles?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Don't know the Ewan one, but Kevin's from Elgin.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Another point for TFD - he is an all!
Maybe DsD can come in for the MacGregor footie bonus?
IS THERE A BETTER FILLUM SOUNDTRACK THAN THIS???

    ReplyDelete
  18. @ gremlinfc - I'm pretty sure that Ewan MacGregor is a Saints fan - that's St Johnstone, not Southampton.

There's plenty of Hibs reference points in Trainspotting. I always wonder what the American audience must make of the cold-turkey scene where he's on the bed, shivering and shaking and the wall behind him is covered with Hibs posters.

Irvine Welsh, by the way, was born in the same hospital as me. A year or two before me.

  19. There's some mega-points there for Toffeeboy - trivia gone mad! Ewan is indeed a "casual" follower of St. Johnstone (his words apparently) and you've got to have a point for the hospital info!
What do you think to the soundtrack?
I've always had a soft spot for Hibs , ever since I had some of their players as footy cards back in the 70s - will dig them out -loved the kit.

  20. Some top Hibs celebrity fans:

Charlie & Craig Reid (The Proclaimers) - obviously!
    Irvine Welsh
    John Leslie
    Grant Stott
Fish - yes, Kalyr, I said 'Fish'!
    Andy Murray
    Dougray Scott

  21. ... and I could add:

    Finley Quaye
    Sandy Lyle
    Shirley Manson
    Ian Rankine
    Jim Diamond
    Gordon Strachan and, allegedly ...
    Kate Bush!

  22. Pat Stanton!
That was one of my first ever encounters with this tremendous team / kit!

    ReplyDelete
  23. OK - here's another claim to fame. I went to see Hibs a few years ago when they beat Hearts 6-2. And who was I sitting next to, discussing the finer points of the match with for the whole 90 minutes. You got it - Pat Stanton!

  24. 6 points of separation- there must be a good one there...
BTW - sympathy with your A Liast views and noms - it's most certainly a very peculiar game...

    ReplyDelete
  25. Shirley Manson - is she possibly the best musician Hibee?

    ReplyDelete
  26. @ gremlin - I couldn't possibly cast my vote anywhere other than the Brothers Reid.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Of course -totally agree - shit Italy just equalised...

    ReplyDelete
  28. 1. Proclaimers
    2. Shirley Manson
    3. Kate Bush
    4. Finley Quaye
    50. Fish

  29. Careful gremlin, remember Tim(Kalyr)'s a big Marrillion fan.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oops - has he got a sense of humour?
I'm sure he has - where did they go to?

    ReplyDelete
  31. At Aa Late N Live at this year's fringe, Wattie from the Exploited inexplicably got invited onstage by Brendan Burns, and then proceeded to shout some very rude songs about Hibs fans.

    ReplyDelete
  32. So who does he support - did he say?
    Was Burns actually FUNNY?
Wattie should have done a cappello "Dead Cities" - that WOULD have been funny...

    ReplyDelete
  33. Presumably Hearts being an Edinburgh lad?

    ReplyDelete
  34. he didnt say, but it musta been hearts.
