  1. That's a wacky picture - where did you find it and presume it's some sort of coming of age ceremony somewhere? Great De La Soul track.

  2. It's a Hassidic bar mitzvah. I looked for "bar mitzvah" in google images and liked this one. I like the fact that he has to sit on 4 chairs. I was so impressed by the crowds behind him that I looked into it a little bit and I think he's the grandson of a very famous Hassidic rabbi.

  3. Thought so - that's some audience for a little dude coming of age! Obviously not your typical ceremony. Great pic.

  4. Nah not usual I would say. I've been to a couple of bar/bat mitzvahs, and they weren't Hasidic, more mainstream, so nothing like that.
There's more pictures here that show the extent of the crowd:

  5. I saw the new Coen Brothers film, A Serious Man, yesterday. Although I was disappointed in the film, there's a great scene of a bar mitzvah where the boy is stoned out of his mind in front of the whole family/community and has to do what a putative man's gotta do.

  6. So here I am, suffering from the inevitable post-match blues, trying to forget, and what's the first thing I see on the 'Spill. A picture of Marouanne bloody Fellaini!

    Jeez ...

  8. I waitressed for a catering company that did a lot of bar/bat mitzvahs (being entirely kosher food). I remember this one--all the kids were dancing to MC Hammer. They seemed so happy. Nice moment.

    wonderful list, as ever.

  9. Ejay: I'll just say that A Serious Man reminded me of The Man Who Wasn't There in tone. If you liked that, I'm sure you'll like this. On the other hand....

Please let me know your thoughts after viewing.

  10. Will do Chris.

On another note, why are we receiving an unusual amount of new spam? I've had to delete 5 in the last 2 days in a 7 month old post.

  11. 'Held Down' makes a point quite well I think - great list.

(the spam seams to have crossed to a different part of the world too - my inbox has dealt with the Japanese - but (Turkish is it?) is getting through)
