Here's a rivolous pre-MFF topic

Most of us would have our music collections filed alphabetically. If there was a fire and you could save one letter's worth, which letter would it be and why?

  2. I'm going to change the question slightly to fit the answer that I want to give. Because I can.

So I'm answering the question from an iTunes point of view, where solo artists are listed by their first names instead of their surnames. And I'm imagining a virus which wipes out all of my music apart from everything starting with the letter 'D' - this would preserve all of the following:

    Dakota Suite
    Danny Wilson
    De La Soul
    Deacon Blue
    Dean Friedman
    Death Cab For Cutie
    The Decemberists
    Del Amitri
    Delays
    The Dentists
    Dexter Gordon
    Dexys Midnight Runners
    The Divine Comedy
    Donald Fagen
    Doves
    Durutti Column

'B' would come a close second.

  4. Ha! I don't have my CDs organized at all, let alone alphabetically, and I'm way too indecisive to pick one letter. Plus I'm in that strange not-so-good mood when I can't decide what I want to listen to.

  5. It'd have to be S for me. The stranglers (a passion), The Smiths (likewise, Joaquin Sabina, and a very long etcetera. I'd need a jolly big cardboard box to put them all in, though.
Steen - can't decide what to listen to?. Time for Malcom's cd, then. I'll try to have it in the box tomorrow!

  6. T:

gives me everything that starts with 'the'.... (Pixies will have to be wrongly filled)

  7. H

Hatfields, Henry Cow, and enough Peter Hammill to fill a wheelbarrow ... or should that be a Handcart?

  8. Easy!

    'D'

It's got (the) Doors and Deep Purple in it, innit!

  12. Good to see Dakota Suite in ToffeeBoy's singed hands!

Do I need to amend the last line of my profile on the Marconium now, TB?

  13. Hmmm ... depending on how bad the fire is, I may panic and grab A because of the immediate hits of AC/DC, Aereogramme and Alabama3.

B tempts with all the Blacks & Blues contained therein.

C runs the gamut of my musical taste from Calexico and Cowboy Junkies to Creed and Centro-Matic.

D is small but with a pair of aces up its sleeve in Dakota Suite and Drive-By Truckers.

I'm tempted to cheat and grab E for External Hard Drive ...

No, it would probably be either L (Led Zep, Little Feat, Low, Lyle Lovett, Live, Living Colour, Lone Justice, Lynyrd Skynyrd and lots more); or

T for Talk Talk, Thunder, Thin Lizzy, Twilight Singers, and all the artists I can cheat by claiming The...

  14. Using Carole's trick, I can store everything under one letter in the i-Tunes sort field, keep the original names & my entire collection. Ha ha!

  15. @ToffeeBoy, er, but I don't have any Dean Friedman (might consider it one day, mind you) and if I did it would be under 'F'. Sorry, but that's just the way it is. I've got (alphabeticalimization) standards to keep up, you know.

  17. Torn between C (Cure, Cult, Mr Cave) and S (Siouxsie, Sisters, Sneaker Pimps), I don't want to imagine losing my CD collection though, it makes me sad :-(

  18. I have my records, more or less, in the order I've played them. I'd grab a handfull from the front I suppose and hope my James Tatun was in there.

  19. Haven't posted on here before because, as a beekeeper, I was too busy feeling offended by the cartoon.

M: on the mp3 player principle, this gives me Miles Davis, Motorhead, Mogwai, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Manuel Goettsching and Massive Attack, which at least offers some variety.
