Now if anyone was going to Twitter, surely it'd be McGyver. I don't because I've never found a reason to. RR might be that reason though. As we trudge through the meaningless tedium of our lives, it might help to share what music we are playing to escape from that dull thumping in our skulls. Or to celebrate the glory of being alive. One of those stop and smell the flowers (if you don't have hay fever) - whiskey bottle half full half empty things.Thoughts? Volunteer co-ordinator?
Are you talking about a 'Spill twitter account?
ReplyDeleteOh, no. Really, no.
ReplyDeleteyeah eJay
ReplyDeleteer, i think
ReplyDeleteI'm scared of any more addictive time-wasting things.
ReplyDeletethat's the first step DP
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't be a mandatory thing anyway. people could participate or not
(I'm not promoting this so much as throwing it out as an idea some might have fun with)
oh, and i'm typing now
I've stopped typing now
ReplyDeletewe can embed the 'spill twitter feed in the sidebar.
ReplyDeleteThe A list is up.
ReplyDeleteI've been robbed too.
I nommed Powderfinger but Paul's picked the Cowboy Junkies cover, not the original.
Bah!
Sorry, Carole, that was me, and I've already apologised to you on the EOTWQ thread before I saw this comment.
ReplyDeleteYes, I saw it DsD.
ReplyDeleteIt isn't your fault.
I am giving up on RR now.
It is a total waste of time as far as I am concerned. I feel sad about it, but I've fallen out of love with the thing.
I'll just stick with the 'Spill.
I was going to stay up till midnight but I'll watch Newsnight and go to bed.
I am not being a bad loser, it just doesn't work for me any more.
My music isn't popular. I'll retire from the fray and hang up my nomming boots.
Hmmm, I can't deny that I know exactly what you mean when you say both
ReplyDelete"I've fallen out of love with the thing."
and
"it just doesn't work for me any more."
because I've been close to the same feeling on a couple of extended periods this year. But try not to say 'never' ... too brutal.
À bientôt?
I agree with other people being able to join in things even if I can't.
ReplyDeleteAnd I recommend having a rest from RR if one feels jaded. Or opting out altogether if that feels right; you can't know if you'll be tempted back unless you try giving it up !
A-list disappointment is a strange thing. Sometimes I might make 1 nomination and still feel outraged that it's not in there among the 000s of noms. Sometimes I'll throw out loads and not give a hoot.
I've just popped over to guardian.co.uk to check the A-list, full of hope as always, and then remembered I didn't play at all last week ! It is so definitely bedtime.
ReplyDeleteCarole, RR is far far better for people who fly the flag for the music they love; but it's not the best way to make the A-list or to harvest lots of donds; and so always risks disappointment, or worse, the feeling of being unappreciated & misunderstood. As DsD (who can't stop being A-listed at present) says, hopefully see you back there soon.
I really get the impression that the music I nominate doesn't actually get listened to, half the time.
ReplyDeleteThis disillusion set in with the Solos topic.
No, I shan't bother again.
I get the impression that if the topic was "Songs about being scared of flying" and I nommed King Crimson's "One More Red Nightmare" it wouldn't get zedded.
Exactly Blimpo!
ReplyDelete(Whatever that is)
Has anyone found the blog yet?
ReplyDeleteNot yet, but maybe that'll summon it.
ReplyDeleteNo.
ReplyDelete"Reckless Consumption", inspired by tonymulryan's (I think) suggestion of a Copenhagen-summit-related theme.
Bagsies on Willin'
Bagsies Billy Joel, I've Loved These Days and Dylan, Million Dollar Bash
ReplyDeleteI'll go with Reckless Eric covering Van Morrison's TB Sheets. It's about consumption, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteAbout your original question Tin, it could be fun, and not to put anyone on the spot, but I could see the likes of Nilpferd, FP, May, Blimpy, TatYo, Tin and probably some others I forgot, being able to write something pithy and witty in 140 characters. I'm not excluding anyone, these are just some names that came up, and it would be open to any 'Spiller anyway.

Doesn't have to be witty even. Just, you know, stuff. We can adjust as we go along. (64 characeters, not including spaces)

ReplyDeleteThe big cat in the original Creature Comforts.
ReplyDeleteNow that's exactly the kind of comedy gold we should be sharing with the twitterweb!
ReplyDeleteI'll put a twitterphone on my Christmas wish list. Mine only came with Facebook and eBay.

ReplyDeleteOriginal Creature Comforts
I always thought the RR bit was fun for you guys, but it sounds like it really gets to you when your nominations don't make it through.
ReplyDeleteI've never been able to follow the thing and am quite happy with just keeping an eye on what's happening on the 'Spill.
As for a twitter-thing, I'm not sure it would add much to the 'Spill. If it has to be said in a few words it can still be said on the main 'Spill.
As with all IT 'innovations' I would ask what the twitter functionality would add that can't currently be accommodated ?
Will we be seeing posts like "Northern line delayed, currently listening to some Northern Soul, loving it." and no more space to add anything useful ?
In Braziw we have the space!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mnemonic, I'd only seen snippets of Creature Comforts. I love it.
ReplyDeleteI love that jaguar! (is that what he is?) He's been an oft-quoted figure in our house for years. Genius.
ReplyDelete@ mnemonic - I hadn't seen the original Creature Comforts for years. I can't believe it was really made twenty years ago!
ReplyDeleteHowever, all fans of Nick Park's work really need to see this clip.
So we going to do the twitter thing or not? I don't know how or I'd set it up and 'embed? it
