It's time to come clean - there's been some covert stuff going down of late. All very hush-hush, and top secret....

Not any more....

It's time to present to you, the first ever 'Spillcast, featuring contributions from:
Steenbeck, Japanther, Blimpy, Darcey'sDad, SKP, Abahachi, and Ejaydee.

Hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it, it really is something special!

  3. The 'Spillcast folder is there but I can't see the files.

  4. It's easier if you put it in the RR Dropbox. I guess I could right-click actually.
I'd like that St-Etienne track, it's been on the 'Spill before hasn't it? I hear good things about St-Etienne, should I get an album?

Can't keep my eyes open, but have to listen to this. I've got as far as steenbeck's piece - Get Up, Stand Up playing as I type - and I'm even more intrigued now.

I hope I'm not giving anything away here, but I wasn't pushed at any topic in particular, so if I sound fairly non-commital, it's because I was unaware of my part in a greater scheme.

  6. woo -hoo! can't wait to listen...will I finally get to hear the dulcet tones of Steenbeck??!

  7. Oh boy! (or oh, dear). If I'd known I was in such illustrious company I wouldn't have let the boys pick the tunes. Can't wait to listen.

  8. Um, what I meant is that I think Christmas music was my free choice, not a Blimpy forced one.

I WANT THE 'MALCOLM' REMIX OF CLINT EASTWOOD ON MY MP3 PLAYER POST-HASTE !!!

  9. For a while there I thought we were all assigned the same topics. Count me in for the Malcolm remix!

  10. Damn, I can't listen to this now as I have to put in three hours' solid research before travelling to Munich; I have vague hopes of getting at least some internat access over the next week, and will then disappear into the Bavarian Forest for Christmas and New Year. Hope to be back to wish you all a Happy Holiday (sic), but for the moment must dash...

  11. @ blimpy - I promise I will contribute to part 2. You just caught me at a bad time. Looking forward to listening to this.

  12. Right. Very many apologies if I have buggered everything up due to complete ignorance of how Dropbox works. It occurred to me that I could download the Spillcast to listen on the train later today; I couldn't find it in Dropbox, but when I clicked on 'deleted files' there it was, and there was this magic button to restore deleted files... Have I done something dreadful?

  14. Enjoyable for sure. Cant get over how "English" everyone sounds (as in unreconstructed) - not a criticism obviously. Also, Blimp, what about those of us with a gnat's attention span? How do you fast forward on this thing?

  15. @sourpus - if you right click the title, download them to yr itunes, then you'll be able to listen offline, on an ipod, and fwd to yr heart's content.

  16. @darce, you're right - i made some suggestions and you came up with your own thing, and very good it was too! when are we getting the full-length darce/gordo then?

  17. @aba - download it via the 'spill!

  19. Brilliant stuff everyone! I didn't quite know what Blimpy was up to either, but love the way it's all been put together to finish up with the christmassy theme (and that last DBT track was great!)

DsD and Steenbeck (love the accent by the way, not "silly" in any way at all, cool, confident and charismatic to my ears) just became a wee bit more real too...

  20. Good stuff there.

    Well done everyone.

  21. Cheering up a very dreary Sunday afternoon paperwork session. Thanks!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Great job all!
Steen, how you think straight about song meanings in that racket I'll never know.

    ReplyDelete
  23. What silly accent, Steenbeck? As Japanther says.
The Malcolm Remix is awesome. What chance a malcolm remix of Salta!!?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Nice to put voices to names Steen and Dsd, plus the renewed acquaintance with the slightly more familiar tones of the rest of you.
Dsd, loved the recipe routine, very nicely done. And Steen, that sounds exactly like our living room on a Sunday, if you substitute Electronic or The Chills. And your voice sounds fine, get over yourself already...

  25. Lovely stuff everybody - I specially like the Malcolm'n'Isaac show.

Blimpy, don't we need some kind of software, as well as our microphone and our computer?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'd quite like to have a go at that, not sure how I'd speak and then mix the tune(s) in with the voice on either side though.

    ReplyDelete
  27. @ treefrogdemon - there's a free (Beta) download of Audacity 1.3 which solved all of my headaches trying to figure out how the hell to record stuff. You could try that, but I'm no expert.

@ CaroleBristol - I didn't mix voice and music; I think Blimpy did a little tweaking for me. Using the above-mentioned Audacity and a REALLY cheap mic, all I did was record two vocals, then exported them as mp3 files to a subfolder on my music harddrive. I dragged the two songs into that folder, renamed the lot with numbers 1 to 4 so Blimpy would know what order to stitch them back together, then sent him one per hotmail as (sub 10MB) attachments.

  28. Blimpy - if you want a contribution from Spain next time, just give me a shout.

  29. Thanks for putting this together Blimpy. And thanks for the kind words, everyone (especially the alliterative kind words, Japanther). I'm feeling sick, and I had to work. (I got stiffed! First time ever. Sucks) And we've got a freezing rain dampening the day. Nice to read all the nice comments as the day went along.

Makinavaja, I'm sure Malcolm would embrace a chance to embellish Salta! Definitely something to work on...

  30. Aw, you all just kept me company on an otherwise miserable return tube journey between Brixton and Tufnell Park. So enjoyable I chose to walk the 110 steps up from the tube platform at T Park instead of taking the lift to prolong the fun - laughing myself silly at the Malcolm and Isaac show all the way up! That Gorillaz 'remix' is GENIUS. And what a lovely face - I mean voice, VOICE! - for radio DsD has. Great job from all concerned - and supreme effort from Blimpy for putting it all together. Well done that man.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Tufnell park! That's on the Northern line! I lived in Highgate for a while...

    ReplyDelete
  32. Having heard/met most of the boys on the Spillcast, it was utterly lovely to hear you Steen: nothing worng with your voice either, some of the fesitiest women in music have these sweet voices, like Polly Harvey and Tanya Donelly. I'd swap my gravelly voice for yours any day. Soooo fun to hear the boys too, was Malcolm also talking about the Hewlett/Albarn Monkey track?

    ReplyDelete
  33. It is indeed on the Northern Line, steen! High Barnet branch. What on earth were you doing in Highgate? I lived in Archway for a bit myself, but am much more comfortable in the wilds of South London...

Right, long past bedtime. Night anyone who's still about. bb

  34. Fantastic stuff everybody, brilliantly organised and pulled together by the Blimpster.

Well done to everybody who managed to make it through my section - the quality was pretty poor, which I need to try and sort out for next time, and I'll have to try and address my tendancy to talk too quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Had some top times (not to mention some personal revolution) in Tufnell Park in the last few years. Just had to say that.

Finally listened to the lot. Great stuff all. I was actually quite envious of those who contributed. Wish I was more of a technophile - might have been able to make a contribution of my own. Considering im about to begin work on my first new album in an age, in January, its a poor excuse. I will be relying on my engineer too much undoubtedly.

(Some great turns and great songs. Clint Eastwood, in particular, reminds me of the best nights I spent in Russia, rocking a fine sheepskin coat and strumming my guitar under a vodka fountain.)

    More Spillcasts the future please!!!

  36. @TFD, sourpus, maikinavaja, carole etc

It really is so easy to do! No need to wait for the next Spillcast either, just make your own one....come on!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Steenbeck - I'll translate the Salta! lyrics for Malcolm - a bilingual mix could be fun!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Steen IS American (was starting to wonder as her writings seemed to becoming more & more British). Lot's of fun - kudos to all the DJ's

    ReplyDelete
  39. Loved it to bits, especially Steenbeck and Ejaydee; now wish I'd had more time and energy and done a better job. Let's do it again! Currently in hotel in Munich, having made the most of Skype to call Mrs Abahachi for 4 Euros for 24 hours' worth of internet connection rather than considerably more in phone bills. Probably won't be on RR this week, but just wanted to stress that it isn't actually a continuation of this week's huff.

  40. I loved everything about this! Everybody sounded so good. I felt like I'd heard DsD's voice before, for some reason. Your presence is so strong, I guess, and you're the first RRer I really noticed, or that talked to me. I loved the songs everybody played. What a joy!

TracyK - ok! I'll trade! But maybe I should hear your voice first. Ahem...time to do a podcast.

Makinavaja - I think he's love that. He loves the song, and (as I discovered doing this podcast) he loves the sound of his own voice.

Shoegazer -HEY! Watch it, old bean, I'm sure I don't sound a bit English. Although I seem to spend more time talking to all my Guardian friends than to good old fashioned real-life American speakers.
