Best Four Intros Ever!

1. "Cannonball" - The Breeders
Weird, distorted chanting folllowed by bizarre rythmical clicking followed by the best bassline ever written followed by awesome sync drums - followed by hawaiian guitar followed by heavy grunge riffs followed by a whistle blowing and then, THEN, THEN!! the song begins....and boy! what a song!
2. "Today" - Smashing Pumpkins
Demonstrates the most bestest and amazing thing a piece of wood with wires and electricity attached can do...
3. "Touch Sensitive" - The Fall
Da da da o da! Da da da o da! HEY HEY HEY HEY !
4. "Da da da" - Elastica
Uh-huh. Uh huh. Keep it simple!

Does anyone else enjoy playing the intros game? Where you bug the living crap out of your friends by making them guess the tune from the opening bars? It'll push a hipster to suicide, i tell thee...

  1. I'm sure there ought to be a quiz game with a CD of thousands of very brief extracts intros. And University Challenge regularly does this - usually obvious things like 'You really got me'. My local pop station does 'Beat the intro' every day, with a short clip, which you have to phone in and identify. I don't waste my money phoning in, and in any case I rarely get it. Good game, tho...

  2. This has been a pretty entertaining subject on Guardian Blogs this week. I hadn't added anything myself but it did make me think of what I consider to be great intros.

    So, in no particular order of merit here are some that I love;

    Led Zeppelin Black Dog

    The Clash Complete Control

    Siouxsie and the Banshees Spellbound

    Joy Division Love will tear us apart

    The Temptations Papa was a rolling stone

    Pink Floyd Speak to me-Breathe

    New Order True Faith

    Sex Pistols Anarchy in the UK

  3. I have just been reminded of a couple more;

    Jimi Hendrix All along the watchtower

    Bruce Springsteen Thunder Road

    Metallica Enter Sandman

  4. The intros round of the ATP quiz is one of the reasons four of us have a free chalet at Minehead next month. I think we got all but one on that and on the pictures round.

    Not that I'm smug or anything - it was a collective effort.

  6. Me and the bloke do an intros cd whenever we go on a long car holiday, it odes make things go a lot quicker, though we do get ridiculously competitive.
