I saw Odetta at a Cambridge Folk Festival, 6 or 7 years ago. She didn't mince her words about the state of the world - I remember her saying that health provision for poor black Americans hadn't improved since Memphis Minnie's day. Another pioneer performer gone.
One of her last gigs (if not THE last) was on Oct 2 at McCabe's guitar shop in LA for their 50th anniversary. RT was there too, that's how I know. See http://romancho.com/mccabes50th/

She was a powerful voice in the 60's, I remember lots of her songs particularly 'Take this Hammer' - great performance.
