I was promised a Blimpcast, where is it? I want my Blimpcast.

ejaydee said...

Ignore me, I found it in the dropbox.

Blimpy said...

is it not working when the play key is pressed?

it is indeed in the dropbox!

I'll have to re-up to boxtr when I get home.

Blimpy - couldn't download from Boxstr and the one in Dropbox cuts out halfway through a song that doesn't sound like it's intended to be the end.

Loved what was there though. JSBX are ace, but like you say, they never really progressed, but maybe that's the point!
Really liked that Found tune too, will DEFINITELY look closer into Fence records now.
And a full Japanther family dond to Betty Boo, Mrs J is a fan and has two full albums, which get an airing from time to time.

Blimpy said...

Hi Japanther - how far roughly in minutes does it get before it cuts off?

Found have their enitire back catalogue for free download linked via their website - so you can listen and dl the ones you like.

Thanks for listening!

Have boxstr gone out of business without telling us?
Their website isn't loading at all?

I can only download 828 bytes. It is in your public folder, isn't it, Blimpy?

Luke-sensei said...

i've got 1hr07mins and it cuts off near the end of a song that sounds like it's called Repeat to Fade.

Gonna check the Found website now....thanks!

Mnemonic said...

Repeat to Fade is probably The Shortwave Set. One of those albums I bought on the strength of the single and then gave away because I didn't like the rest of it.

DarceysDad said...

@ Blimpy - at the moment, the dropbox folder is empty. Can you (or someone) put it back in, please?

DarceysDad said...

92.3MB copied in from Dropbox: does that sound about right?

Ta.

Blimpy said...

I won't know til I get home - sorry guys!

Blimpy said...

I've re-upped- it really shouldn't cut off during Repeat To Fade - here's the url

https://dl.getdropbox.com/u/220294/Blimpcast%205.mp3

92.3 meg indeed Rich.

This is a joy. I haven't had the capability of listening to a blimpcast for months now. I have made myself an oddly pleasing mescal and grapefruit juice and now a warm and cosy glow permeates from the stylus...

Anyhoo, Betty Boo! Now it makes sense. It was actually a tune, wasn't it?

And Greenwich? Good stuff. Went there for the first time two days ago and got sunburned. Crofton Park in full effect.

snadfrod said...

First seven inch? Well I don't think I ever bought a seven inch for myself, but the first I ever asked to have bough for me was probably a novelty single called 'Thunderbirds Are Go' by F.A.B. Either that or Timmy Mallett, I can't quite be sure.

Then I dimly remember having the cassette single of 'Everything I Do (I Do It For You)' so must hold my hands up as being partly responsible for that phenom.

First CD single I remember buying and being pleased with myself about was probably 'Yes' by McAlmont and Butler, which was the only thing I listened to on a week's holiday with my parents in the Med. Youthful rebellion, or somesuch...

Blimpy said...

Hi Snad -thanx for listening - nice to hear the vinyl sounds isn't it?

i own 2 of the 3 snigles you mention. amongst the first 7"s i bought, i think a few were novelty, but then i was 10 (star trekkin etc).

greenwich can be lovely, the queen's house, the market, the slope down from the hill in the park, and having a pint in the sun down by the river...

snadfrod said...

Star Trekkin'? Check. Also, I seem to remember having an Ed The Duck snigle (I like the typo, let's keep it), which you must have either loved or hated, I assume?

Greenwich is definitely lovely, and full of an alarming number of children called Octavia, Astrid and Ottoline. Today Mrs Frod and I also fell hopelessly and inevitably in love with Borough Market.

Wandering around ogling improbable fish and buying 'lesser known' cuts of meat - that's what makes me know that I'm alive.

snadfrod said...

Also, Mrs McFlah should be commended on her driving music. Sunroof open, lungs bellowing, go faster.

A couple of weeks ago I drove from Stourbridge to London accompanied by a bucketload of Jim Steinman in his various forms. I make no pretence to coolness but it felt FRICKING AMAZING.

Mnemonic said...

I now have a 92.4 download. Thanks Blimpy

Blimpy said...

@snadfrod - top stuff!

Luke-sensei said...

Alright, i'm going to try to download one more time.....I really do want to hear the whole thing!

ejaydee said...

Did somebody delete it again from the dropbox folder?

tincanman said...

blimpy did and I'm not sure why. I restored it, but when I relaized it was he who deleted it, I unrestored it.

I'll restore it for you

Abahachi said...

Is my hearing going, or did you just suggest that the theme music for Buffy the Vampire Slayer was by The Breeders? Don't think so...

Luke-sensei said...

Well, i'm not sure if i've got the full version or not, but the show gets better every time I listen!

"Doin' The Do" sparked off some serious shape pulling around the living room, swiftly followed by a run through "Boomania" and as I type, the more sophisticated "Grrr! It's Betty Boo" album is playing in the background with Mrs J attempting to sing along with the sleevenotes!

Was that The Shortwave Set, by the way?

Blimpy said...

@aba - no! it's a cover by the breeders!!

@japanther - yes, twas shortwave set, and Ms Boo was a total star, wasn't she?

Blimpy said...

@tinny - i moved the blimpcast to the public folder, as this seemed to solve the initial streaming problems.

steenbeck said...

I'm upcited to listen (a word Malcolm invented when he was a younger youngster that I think is a keeper) but the weekend is hard. Tommorrow...

ejaydee said...

I haven't finished listening yet, but it's top stuff. I don't think I ever bought a 7' for myself, I was more a cassette man, I know this was my favourite favourite 7" though. I liked the Betty Boo, that's very good crap. And the first song you played, what was it again?

Blimpy said...

@ejaydee - the new theme music? it's 1901 by phoenix with minimcF shouting over the top of it.

The first track proper was "enough about human rights" by Found.

thanks for listening!

I think Mrs McFlah's accent is the best ever! She also does a very dry wit well: can Mrs McFlah do a whole podcast next time? I really enjoyed the Jane Wiedlin.

Mrs McF. said...

Dear TracyK,

You should have seen his face when he read your very kind sweet comment!

The next podcast may be a joint effort...

xxx

DarceysDad said...

Oo-er! Right then, if me and Gordon are going to do the first joint one, I'd better get on with sorting the tech stuff out!

Think 'Stadler & Waldorf in denim', or a rock'n'roll Last Of The Summer Wine.

But not this week; I'm shattered from inputting 200+ parent & chaperone contact details into the security spreadsheet for the show this weekend!

G'night all.

Blimpy said...

Get on the case Rich! We are ready and waiting!

ejaydee said...

Yesterday I started the intro for the Edcast (working title)! It might not go further but it's a start.

Luke-sensei said...

After about 10 attempts I finally got to listen to the majority of the mighty Blimpcast.

Everything i've heard by The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart so far has been ace, so I may have to invest in the full album.
First 7" was either "Give It Up" by KC and the Sunshine Band or "A.E.I.O.U" by Freeze. Me and my brother got to choose a current top 10 single as a free gift when we bought a pair of Clarks school shoes. Those two were definitely chosen, but I can't remember which one I chose and which was my brothers.
Mrs McFlah was a star - more future collaboration please!

sorry about the King Biscuit Time Blimpcast/30MOT overlap, I hadn't heard that far when I made mine. Great minds think alike and all that eh.....

TracyK said...

I love the giggling: more Pimms for you guys. I loved the whole "how can you tell if you are alive?" thing, very very funny.

Blimpy said...

Thanks for the kind words, Spillers, due to public demand the next Blimpcast will be co-presented - though I think a new name may well be in order...

Shoegazer said...

Finally catching up. Any Blimpcast is a fine thing, but this was my favoritest since the 1st one, i think.

Thanks Shoey!
