Thought you might enjoy this: a short piece put together by my brother (Pete Sinclair) and his friend and long-time collaborator political comedian Mark Steel. Their aim was to write, film and edit the piece in one day - and they almost managed it ...
Thank God somebody's saying it. Nice one, Mark (and Pete). The level of prurient, mob-baiting media coverage on Venables has been pretty vile. This article strikes me as sensible on the subject:
Horrendously accurate. One poor chap and his family got hounded because 'concerned members of the public' thought he was Venables. They couldn't make even the smallest of correct logical steps to figure out that, because the story broke when Venables was put back in jail, it was impossible - parallel universes aside - for the object of their fury to be at large. I bet they were all on 'cake'.
ejay - you beat me to it. This kind of thing is outrageous. Down with it, whatever it is.
The clip is done very well. I like the "Oi, you don't look outraged at all" bit especially.
That's the problem with the youf (and the oul ones too) of today, if they don't get a good bit of outrage every so often they start thinking for themselves and we can't be having that.
I don't know if this will link correctly, but it's worth a watch - Daily Mail Island - http://www.youtube.com/v/xPlEIryW8zA>
Loved this. on my side of the pond I keep running into people extolling "American Exceptionalism" & my reply is the main thing we're exceptional at is taking exception. Classic.
When that tosser from the Sun called a 10 year-old boy the most vicious and psychotic killer of his generation on Question Time (man, am I loving having access to the iPlayer!) I was hoping that this ridiculous reactionary tabloidese was just a one off, but it seems not....
The furore surrounding Maggie Atkinson's comments has been shameful as well. To be honest, i'm not sure how much of the outrage has been a fiction of the press and how much has been genuine.
I'm convinced, that the outrage is mostly manufactured, or at least self perpetrated by the press. Charlie Brooker demonstrated it perfectly with the "growing calls", "mounting pressure" and "media furore" over the John Terry business. I didn't see anyone exactly marching in the streets about it.
Thanks for all the comments. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who's outraged about people not being outraged enough about whatever it is we're all supposed to be outraged about. I know I am ... I think.

Well done! Thanks for the laugh
I believe our Rocking Mitch is a friend of Mark Steel's too. It's a small world; outrageously so.
@ DaddyPig - 'tis true, 'tis true. And to quote the one and only P G Wodehouse "I've never known a smaller ..."
