it's only a game.
http://playthegame.timesonline.co.uk/soccer/times_login.asp
It's been pointed out to me that this game has the capabilities of setting up your own league.. as we did last year on the defunct Guardian game... Don't know if I can play this year Mummy sez my tea is nearly ready... (got a big project starting at the end of August)
..but if snadfrod hasn't gone out to by todays Times to get a head start on the rest of you.. then it could be a good good one to set up and get going with the RR lot... the good thing about it - no-one can have the same player in their team as one of their opponents... double plus tough.

Sounds good to me - I look forward to repeating last season's mid-table mediocrity. Anyone with a bit more technological expertise than me willing to set this up?
So do we have a league yet, or does someone want me to set it up?
Nobody move!
I'm doing it, but it's taking me a while.
Anyone who is deffo going to join, post a quick Aye! here, quick. Invitations / places are limited.
hey DsD.. how many places in a league then?
cos I should really join in shouldn't I!
AAAAARTRGGGHHH!
Max 20, Shane, and I'd just added the eighteenth invite when I hit the page back button by accident and lost the lot.
ouch!
Don´t know if i´m allowed to play -can i be competitive and do a Vinnie Jones on your Gazza´s testcards or do we have to have a group hug at after the results come out?!?! Only half joking , it would be an absolute pleasure to pit my wits against you luvverly chaps / chapettes. Please can I have Titus Bramble and Michael Duberry too as my central defenders?
Oh and dear sweet DsD have you had a look through my posts - I have them all here listed and ready for you if you need them but thought i´d just remind you...
Gremlin, your FantasyFooty invite should be in your inbox.
tincanman has already declined to prop up the table for a second season, so there will be a couple of spare places available for whoever I've inevitably forgotten from last year.
One big change from last season; we all have to meet (in tin's chatroom would be best, I guess) to bid for the players. We can't all have Mikel Arteta and Stephen Ireland this year.
Could be a problem that . . .
OK, I'm signed up and looking to join in the fun this year. Hopefully a welcome distraction from being in the third division on -10 points.
Thanks for the invitation, DsD, but I'm not into fantasy football.
I have to second Chris here.
Sorry, people.
Afternoon all, just back from a sneaky holiday (although I feel like I've spent a lot of it driving up and down France...) and I'm deffo in for this if I can still get an invite? PLUS I will even rise above Shane's trash talk and simply hope that fantasy can be the winner...
@ Snadfrod - go check ALL your email addresses, Mr.Frod, you should already have an invite.
... and at Chris & nilpferd: no worries, thought I'd ask.
I thought Spurs fans' raison d'etre was fantasy football, though I can see why something that artistic wouldn't be to the taste of an Evertonian!
*I'm JOKING, OK?!*
Oooooooooooooh, &$%^*@#?~!!
That's just it- our version of fantasy football is far beyond your pathetic little games.. WE WILL RETURN!! AND WE SHALL WIN!!! AND WE SHALL PLAY BEAUTIFULLY!!!! AND WE...
Oh.
Sorry.. just trying to get my head around my local club's recent transfer deal- Gomez out, Huntelaar in.
Hmm. Huntelaar. You'd think a club who only recently offloaded Jon Dahl Tomasson would have learned something. Or maybe I'm just too cynical.
Just stepped off the beach out of the 37 degrees after having burned my back and registered the newly formed but unimaginatively-named "Gremlinfc" and will be embarking on pre-season sledging as soon as i´ve sorted out the baby-oil...for my back, dear me some of you are just terrible.
Who´s got the biggest virtual ground?
@DsD - my bad. Found it now and will get on get on to it asap. Ta.
PS - the question at the end is satirical...
Right. Logged in and created. Now when do we have our 'Snake'?
@Gremlin - I have a massive personal arena, if that helps...
No tin? Damn, I may be in relegation territory after all. Did you ask Skippy?
I'm in, by the way. And no one, I repeat NO ONE, is buying Joleon Lescott. OK?????!!!!!
RIP Bobby Robson
(from this part of East Anglia)
@Shane - hear hear. From all over the country.
@TB - unlike in real life, you mean?...
Morning all.
I'm hoping to get a couple of hours online tonight, but I've got a VERY busy weekend coming up, so don't think I've abandoned you/this.
@ gremlin -
Ha! No.1: told you not to overdo the sun.
Ha! No.2: Darcey County should've had the biggest ground by now, but the owners finances went south just at the point of committing to the project.
;o)
@ Snadfrod - DsDonds for both bits in your last comment.
@ Abahachi - Skippy? Yes I did, but he's another one I have two email addresses for, so I might have to resend to the other one if he doesn't respond.
@ barbryn - if you want to feel at one with your real team, we could start you at -10 pts here too if you like!
And a serious point: the UniDond League Chairman gag earlier is not of my own making. I got a confirmation email from The Daily Murdoch that that is my new title and responsibility. Um, if that turns out to involve any regular admin work to keep the league going, I may struggle. Anyone interested in helping out if necessary?
Right, breakfast, dressed and out for a major shopping day (everything from new house locks to a flute to a trampoline to industrial quantities of washing powder).
@DsD - so you've decided to go ahead with the 'Lockdown-Soapy-Flute-Bouncy-Suds-Spectacular' then? Is it a bank holiday affair? Can I get a ticket?
P.S. If admin gets tough, I'll chip in.
@ DsD - did you buy a trampoline? If not, I could probably give you one (a 10 footer) but you'd need to get it from Watford to Oop North. My girls have grown out of it ...
@snadfrod - hope it´s vast dude because when the "smarmy army" with its hordes of uncouth revellers descends to back the Gremlinfc we need plenty of space to shake our groove thaangs (shake our groove thaangs yeah yeah...). Our place - the "Theatre of Creams" , or "AufDonny" as it´s affectionately known to locals , even has separate prawn cocktail sandwich bars for home & away fans...bet you can´t wait...
Oops. Forgot to answer Toffee the other day.
Yes we did buy one, but I'm still touched by the offer; thanks.
I may have to try to force through the player allocation this Sunday evening; would everyone be around for that?
Sorry, only just noticed that there was another comment. Yes, I'll probably be available tomorrow evening, depending on state of marital relations, but someone will have to tell me when, where, how etc.
I will not be here on Sunday night, that's me relegated then.
I hadn't seen the extra post either. We have guests round tomorrow night and monday, so it might be awkward, but if I can't work around it then I'm sure there'll be diamonds-in-the-rough aplenty to go around...
OK, I understand we may have a bit of a problem getting this done.
I'm away at DsGran's at the moment. I am back at home with an otherwise empty house on Sunday evening, but am then working away in Redditch for most of next week. Travelodge charge £5 an hour for wi-fi!!!!
Thursday night (13th?) is possible; Friday is not. League kicks off on Saturday.
I'm open to suggestions . . .
It sounds like tonight is probably best, then, but I don't quite get how it works. Does everyone have to be present at the same time? Are you going to do it on the Spill?
If necessary I'd be happy to provide some sealed bids and then pick over the leftovers after...
Given logistical problems, is it perhaps worth considering back-tracking on the 'let's sort this all out ourselves' approach, and see how the automatic allocation based on stated preferences thing works? Or is it too late? I can manage Thursday if that's any use.
