'It's A Pose' Nellie McKay
it seems to be missing.. are you slacking Ms. Steen?
(even though I think it's a cracking track, I have serious issues with some of the lyrics.. your thoughts?)
time for my bed.
Hmmm...I didn't actually think of that song, Shane, but I suppose it does fit. I think you're right that the lyrics are a bit...I dunno the word for it.
I guess I was going in about 10 other directions with the word "deception" but that wasn't really a direction I thought of. I'd dond it if you nom it, though.
I hope to have a chance to listen to your noms and about 1 billion others, but it may have to wait until monday.
no worries steen.. got a list (or two) up now, so easier to find the songs.
deception is a huge and diverse idea... can't get back to RR (i'll try again tomorrow)
We had the ATCQ Butter sample discussion already, I think.. Weather Report's Young and Fine. Pete Rock's Truth Is could be sampling something off one of the Love, sex and the Zodiac tracks, the guitar sounds similar.
The Fela clips are awesome.
Loved this, especially of the new ones to me, Hypocrite, Odetta and The Roots' Masters Of War (60stastic with the inclusion of Star Spangled Banner and Machine Gun), Yo La Tengo and... The COup, not what I expected at all, I really liked this.
Thanks, Ejay!! I felt really bad about harassing you about that Coup track the other night... I really wasn't looking for donds, just somebody to talk about it with, because I was excited by how much I liked it, but then I was worried it was because it sounded like Outkast, and it might be derivative, but Nothing I read made the comparison, and then I was thinking it's just timbre and accent (both of which I love) Sigh.
I like that messy, human, beautifully observed quality of it. And the humor. Always like the humor.
Funny, I was only mentioning Outkast because of the N&L connection but did hear something in the song... maybe it was the Parliament/Funkadelicness of it, the "sunniness". I need to listen to it again to talkk about tit properly though.
On another note, as per your Soul yearnings, I'll drop something you might like tomorrow.
