Time H2H flirted with the present. This time it's the much vaunted Mumford and Sons versus the redoubtable Leisure Society. Bear in mind, it's the tracks which are up for comparison, not the bands.
Okay, so they are quite different experiences right off the bat, but they are on the same theme (more or less) and both bands contain a banjo player (is that the best you could do sourpus?). Seriously though. Which gets your vote?

I've switched on Radio 1 in the car twice in the last month or so, and heard that Mumford & Sons song twice. So it has a bit of an unfair advantage, but it's got a craking big chorus and I'm a bit of a sucker for folk-tinged waltz-time anthems, so I think it still gets my vote. However, I'm guessing that if I investigated both bands further - which I think I will do - I'd prefer the Leisure Society.
pleasant...
but neither grabbed me this morning (i might be in hyper critical mood) I do have tracks by both bands that I love - nope, can't decipher my indifference - a muted draw, I'm afraid.
The Leisure chaps score highly for theor most excellent collection of jumpers, but Mumford run away with their massive tune.
The Mumford record has had a lot of play from me, ad from what I can hear so far the new Laura Marling has big sweaty Mumford fingerprints all over it, bring it on!
Is mumford the sweary banjo track Blimpford posted a while back? I like them a lot. Still have to listen to the other.
The Leisure Society's songs and melodies remind me so much of Clifford T Ward, its quite impossibly to listen to them without thinking of him. And since it's time a decent cover of 'Gaye' was made, why not let TLS do it?
Mumford is nice - lyrics well conceived - and, yes, its a big tune. But is it actually a very good one, or is it just a bit 'dressed up'? Hard to see until their record has been around for a few more decades.
TLS combine great words and a genuinely great melody that strikes me immediately as in no need of any additives at all. I have to choose 'Last of the Melting Snow'.
@steen - yes!
@sourpus - time will tell, shall we repost this in 2050?
B-Mac, maybe we should. Wouldn't it be good if we all could and we all remembered? That was my original idea for H2H though - reassessment of old songs, theoretically made more interesting by comparing with like songs from the same sort of era. Kind of forcing you to think again about them - make them feel different again. We cant really do this with these two.
