OK, I'm still up, because I'm in my worryingly-annual, end-of-footy-season, bad mood; sleep don't come easy! And DarceysMam has just stomped off to bed with a face like thunder (either my fault, or the UK took another Eurovision pasting ... don't tell me, I don't wanna know!), so there's little point heading off to bed.
But anyway, I've kinda made Cauliflower's RR Google Map work. But now I feel ever so lonely . . .
As Boxstr seems to be unavailable, I thought I'd see if I could still PodBean. Just a couple of tunes from this week's theme, both instrumental as I don't seem to have anything more to say.

So how did you stick a pin in this?
Hey, it works!
I've just put me on there.
Just put your postcode into Search Maps and then click on Save To My Maps.
Very much liking this Mad Season - November Hotel tune btw, DsD.
Sign into RRdond&spill - my Blogger account sign-in seems to also be my Google sign-in.
In any Google Map type your desired home location into the find box (careful with how specific you want to be).
Google will stick a pin in the map, and open a box. If you click in Save To My Maps, it will ask you which map you want to save to. RRdond&spill should be an option.
If you click save, it will keep your typed destination as the "title", and you can type your blogname into the description box. Oh, and just because I was experimenting, I changed the pin colour to the same as my RR avatar.
Then click OK, and that should be it.
Cheers, BalearicBeat.
Mad Season were Pearl Jam's Mike McCready's rehab/therapy side-project apparently. Given that two of the band have subsequently OD'd, it didn't do much good on the rehab front, did it?!
Fecking top notch another bit of fecking technology i can't get to fecking barsteward work - spotify, dropbox...might as well just fecking feck right off. Tried and failed.
Sorry 'bout that, gremlin. Do you want me to do it for you? Just say where.
after that rant i seem to have planted my pin where i want it but don't understand how Balearic beats got a photo in and how you managed to protect your real name - is that your e-mail address?
If you can put Sheffield Fc on as I have done but under gremlinfc rather than any real name it would be appreciated - i don't have a clue how to change what i have done because i don't know how i did it in the first place!

Kind of. My Blogger/Google sign-in is based on my DsD hotmail address. Dunno about the photos.
gremlin - I've no idea how I got a picture on there, it just appeared when I set the pin. I've got rid of it now, as I didn't really want it (not that it was my house anyway!)
To edit the details, change the pin colour etc, next to where it says "Collaborate", click on "Edit" and then your entry and you can change it.
Thank you Darceysdad you are a gent (or as a southern mate of mine says "a toff).
Tricky, isn't it. Could be a LOT easier. Maybe we can charge them for consultancy. Thanks for indulging my map making fantasies - hope it helps the virtual community feel even more connected.
Anyone needing a pin stuck in, let me know. Thanks DsD for sorting it out.
Was that too specific? SHould I be more vague?
Phew! That WAS complicated. Think I managed to do the basics though!
I did it! I think!
I think I'm on there. Seems a bit hit or miss ...
@ gremlin - Just realised the reason mine originally had a photo is because it's covered by Google Streetview, which only has major cities like Manchester and London at the moment.
Just about managed to add my icon - even managed to find a slightly demonic looking flag!
Can't believe I'm the first 'Spiller to stake my claim for Birmingham... can I swap it for something else?
It's all very well bleating about Birmingham, but Shoey's Gators appear to have colonized the Aleutians..
WOW - I just got mesen a little green footie player as my pin-thaang! it looks well nice - what a tremendous looking map...
I've just tried to relocate Shoegazer back to the Sunshine State. Can't guarantee to have placed the pin within an orange-throw of Chez Shoey, mind.
I've had a happy half hour messing with icons. No idea if they show up for anyone else. Loving the beach and holiday destinations...
If I could locate the Irish holiday home we've been staying in for 15+ years I'd put it on the map. Just heard it's up for sale which makes me very sad - we'll never go again... unless someone wants to lend me the dosh (£80K secured on my home, good interest repayable in full in 5 years, an excellent investment!)
Would love to Cauli, but Blimpy got to my savings first. (I woulda been a few zeros sort for your RR summer home project)
Just read in the paper that rich fat cats are cutting political donations because of the latest scandal, so surely you can tap one of them. All you have to do is promise to give them all your contracts and not tax them much if you get elected.
Hey this is fun...
@BalearicBeat,
I don't know how accurately you've placed your marker but you seem to be on the same street as my brother. We were over there yesterday for the first time to see his new daughter (yes, new house and new baby!)so I may have gone right past your house. If I'd realised we would have waved!
And chris7572, I lived in your area for a couple of years in the '90's (Clyde Road to be exact).
Excellent map Cauliflower.
@ gordonimmel
If your brother's on Brantingham Rd, then it is indeed a small world. My sister used to live on Clyde Rd in Didsbury in the 90s too.
Am intrigued by the RR DJ booth in the mid-Atlantic. Put me down for a set as long as my decks aren't going to get wet ;-)
@ BalearicBeat
The DJ Booth was created last year:
http://readersrecommend.blogspot.com/2008/05/transatlantic-rr-social.html
As with so many individual comments, it grew and took on a mythical status of its own.
Yay! I found a stealie small enough to use as a marker!
Well done, cauliflower, this is fun! (enough exclamation marks now - Ed). I'm actually residing just a little further up the A6 from your northern home at the moment, while my house is full of in-laws.
Gordon, I usually live a little further north from Clyde Road but have spent some time on Northen Grove in my distant past.
And, BalearicBeat, I lived in Chorlton for a while too. Closer to the Meadows/Stretford border.
It's a small world, isn't it? Especially when you re-size it to fit a computer screen....
So now we can play 'Spill Risk. Who's got the dice?
Oh, that'll be Gordon, Shoey, definitely Gordon!
This is brilliant. At last I can start to piece it all together. Cheers Cauli and Dsd.
So Cauli, not only are you my nearest neighbour, you also have a Northern Residence very near Poynton, where I grew up.
AND
BalearicBeat/Chris - I lived all around Manchester, mainly Withington, but also spent a very happy year on Manley Road, euphemistically described as 'Chorlton Borders'. The world really is very small indeed, no.
Oh and I was born in Huddersfield, too, so we have that one covered as well. Anyone offering Extreme West Of Ireland?...
snadfrod - As Morrissey didn't quite sing:
" What do we get for our trouble and pain?
Just a rented room in Chorlton Borders" ;-)
Next road along from me, Manley Rd. It's fully-fledged, Guardian-reading, organic-yoghurt-weaving Chorlton and I'm sticking to it!
Looking at your marker on the map, BB, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, Chorlton you very much are. They're rather long roads and we lived very firmly down the Whalley Range end, though people never seem quite so proud of that...
They sell more Guardians in Chorlton than anywhere else in the country, don't they?
Although, interestingly, my folks live in a village where the newsagents NEVER has any Guardians left. This, I think, makes it either the most or the least Tabbouleh-loving village in the country...
@ snadfrod
Or the village with the most incompetent shopkeepers. Wouldn't one, you know, order a couple more Guardians to sell?
snadfrod/chris - I was schooled in Marple (my folks still live near Lyme Park - there are never any Guardians in the shops. They're THRILLED with the Telegraph's coup on MP's expenses, as if they think that'll make me start buying it). And I lived in the Hulme crescents in the mid 70s (not so far from where BalearicBeat is now, and had a few weeks in Withington, near Chris 7572, as a student too). I say grass not grarse. Not a Londoner really... though I did go through Lewisham at the weekend, almost at the end of your street! I've added in my Ireland west coast heaven, to keep you company. And some other delightful summering spots. When it gets more crowded I'll remove them, maybe...
gordonimmel - I love Dumfries - had a fancy to move to Auchencairn... just got to finish my training and I'm right there!
It's funny, snadfrod, 'cos I'm getting much ribbing from one set of mates for having recently sold out and joined the bohemian "Chorlton Set" in their eyes, especially as my current finances are more Aldi than Unicorn Grocery! The other lot are insisting I'm only really "Chorlton Borders". I feel neither camp will be satisfied until I've staged a one-man protest outside Tesco Express or something.
Tin - we lived somewhere just outside Bolton for a short while before our last house in Bury came through and the newsagent only ever had one copy. I used to buy it every morning on my way to work until I had a few days off and went in later in the day to find it gone. Cue much "But I'm the only Guardian reader in the village" erm, hilarity. Laugh? I nearly bought the Daily Mail ;-)
Not working for me - Google will let me save my location in the Half Man Half Biscuit song lyrics map (http://tinyurl.com/ommyu5) but this one doesn't show in My Maps. Might have another go tomorrow, or someone please feel free to pin me to Littlehampton, BN17.
Done, barbryn... if there's a nice icon you fancy, send me the URL and I'll make you uniquely you! But you might be able to edit it yourself, now it's there...
Ooff! Oh, Cauli, Auchencairn!! Gordon & DarceysMam once drank each other under the table in The Smugglers' there. Lovely pub, lovely village, needed a decent chippy.
Can someone please tell me in MORON language how to get a simley icon onto the RR MAp? I've been trying for ages and just want to take a hammer to my computer...
No gremlin, I can't! Tried and failed something similar myself. So when you do get some help, I'll take it too.
I've been playing, filling up the map with memories - I'll scrub them in a bit, sorry. To get daft icons on there I found some here and there e.g. http://emoticonhq.com/skypeemoticons.html and http://www.smileyicons.net/ To put one on you RR map ID, right-click on the icon and copy the URL. Then, Go to the RR map and click 'edit' at the top of the left hand column, and double-click on the entry you want to modify. Click on the little icon square (top right in the info bubble), click on 'add an icon' and paste the URL you copied earlier into the box. That's it. Good luck! (let me know if you get stuck)
Thanks, cauliflower. Caffeine & decks much more appropriate than the boring pins.
@BalearicBeat, the world just keeps getting smaller....
I spent my teenage years in Bolton (on the north side on the way to Blackburn) and my parents still live there. Whereabouts near Bolton were you?
@Cauliflower, once treefrogdemon gets it into gear you'll see that her permanent home is around Kirkudbright somewhere (not sure exactly where) so she's the one you really want to be to talking to about moves to Auchencairn!
Oh, and the immel family are off to our 'summer retreat' this coming weekend, as is our custom.
I'm there, gordonimmel...and yes, cauliflower, I'm very near Auchencairn so get yourself over there tout de suite!
Erm, Cauliflower ... I know Mnemonic is having to look far and wide for Zissou, but I don't think she'll have stowed away on the Fishguard-Rosslare ferry !!
Can someone who knows where Broad Green is in London move Mn's pin back there please?
@ gordon
We stayed in Harwood for a couple of months after we'd moved back oop North from that London, waiting for completion on our last house in Tottington, near Bury.
So sorry Mnemonic... I hope I've put you back where you should be. Any news on Zissou?
I realised late last night that I'd moved someone else's pin by mistake - easily done with this app. Thanks for spotting it, DsD.
Loving Shoegazer's croc. Or are you a gator?
Shoey's definitely a 'gator, Cauli.
He doesn't live far from Gatorland, one of Orlando's more bizarre theme parks.
I think Disney have the only crocs in the area.
Thanks for moving me back.
No news on Zissou...
Ok I think I've done it - I should be on the Northern edges of the Manchester cluster (not far from BalearicBeat's & Gordoninmel's old stomping grounds). Nice to hear there's an Auchencairn connection as well - used to tour up & around there (Galloway/Kirkudbrightshire) years ago & up till 2007 the Wickerman Festival was my annual treat (diary clashes have put the kybosh on the last couple). Hoping to manage Solfest this year though, on the other side of the Firth.
So Oldham looks best for a northern social.
Or, I see that central to everyone is a big juicy flaming Satan.
Makes you realise how little our island is...
How strange, My friend K lives in/near Chorlton, a 5 minute walk from that very Tesco Express, in fact. I can almost guarantee that we'll be in the Jam Street cafe Sunday morning, clutching our post-Maximo hangovers and a mug of strong tea.
@ tin
That map does rather make me look like I am the centre of the known 'Spilliverse. And rather isolated too...
If it's Oldham I'd suggest The Castle
