The CD player in our car is broken, and this causes me to listen to the radio. Fortunately, we have a few college stations in the area that play great varieties of music, sometimes awful, but you never know. I realized how much the 'Spill has impacted me, because as I would hear new music, I would wonder which 'Spillster would like it. I thought it might be fun to post a sample of what I heard, and I could see this being an ongoing series, and encourage others to participate as well.
The BPA--Toe Jam ft. David Byrne and DIzzee Rascall (and an amusing video)
Cocorosa
Archie Shepp
Archie Shepp--Les Matin des Noire
MF Doom
MF DOOM--Mugwort

(that David Byrne video..)
..did everyone else from the spill pop round to Nick Caves for a party?
I play that game too!
I've finally managed to get through all the weekend's post, I would have donded so much, but time was lacking.
I liked hat Toe song when it came out, but forgot to follow it up. This year, N.A.S.A. seems to be taking the mantle (I heard a song with Kool Keith and Tom Waits.
The last good new thing I heard on the radio was "Folksong Oblivion" by The Phantom Band. BBC6 is the best station!
The BPA was okay, a bit of a waste of Byrne and Dizzee if you ask me. Especially Dizzee - his rap could have been twice as long, allowing it to really take off and get hectic.
I've been checking out a bit more of The Phantom Band - goddamn they're good!
Aaarrgh - I don't get paid for another 3 days and there's a recession on!! Must have vinyl, MUST HAVE VINYL!!!
If anyone can resolve my dilemma, please leave the solution in the comments!!
Yeah, it was kind of like that arctic monkeys song--Temptation greets you... I don't actually have any Dizzee Rascall, though every time I hear him I think I should.
It was just funny, how everything was reminding me of the 'Spill. I was in and out of the car over the space of a few hours, and I heard a jazz show, a sort of indie show (they played casiotone ftpa, Animal Collective, etc etc) and my personal fav, a hiphop/soul/reggae show. It's all on WPRB out of Princeton U. A very mixed bag, but Monday afternoons seem to be all good. I suppose you could listen on line. The best thing I heard was a Pete Rock instrumental that was new to me...(Al Green sample)

Great Archie Shepp track, I have to play it for Sandra, and the Cocorosa reminds me of KoKoMo(I love you so)..also really liked the MF Doom, I need to look into that album.. nice timing, as I'm currently stuck in a dull hotel in Saalfeld.. at least they have WLAN.. I also like the way the modesty bars make stick people and arrows on the first vid.. re car cd players, we drove around NZ with my parents.. my dad had a radio/cd unit with a security beeper, every time he turned off the engine it beeped to remind you to take it with you, so no-one could steal it.. we heard exactly the same beeping noise in the first motel we stayed in, the fridge beeped if you left the door open for longer than a minute.. so, on holiday, the whole way down the west coast of NZ, everytime the car stopped and the cd/radio unit beeped, Mara yelled from the back seat "fridge door's open.."
If I hear that beeping in 20 yrs, the first thing I'll think is.. fridge doors open.. the funny thing is, when we got back home, our fridge had turned itself off and defrosted all over the floor, we must have left the door open.. spooky or what??!!
yep..
sure is dull in this hotel..
That MF Doom/Metalfingers presents album is extremely cool..
I just ordered it..
Nilpferd, I have to disclose the fact that that's not the Archie Shepp track he played, but I couldn't find it on last fm, and I enjoyed listening around the Archie Shepp section, and especially liked the one I posted.
I thought you might like this jazz show. The deejay is very....reasonable-sounding.
Here's yesterday's playlist...

And last Monday, which was MLK day, and the day before the inauguration, he said he'd like his soundtrack to the Obama administration to be Thelonius Monk, and here was his playlist...

We were driving along the river in the snow, and it was a nice moment.
And I love your story about the beeping and it's associations. I swear there are small things from travelling that stick with you your whole life. My brother had a story about a tepid nose cup...
Way back when Teenshoe the elder was just learning to speak, we were all driving somewhere & I hit the car horn & a small voice from the backseat said "Stupid cow".
As a coda, a couple of weeks ago I had ordered that Miles from India album which was playlisted on WPRB; it arrived at the end of last week, and is a awesome album. Recommended for Ejaydee in particular, and anyone else into Bitches Brew/On the corner era Miles Davis.
