Let me be the first to offer Happy Birthday wishes to the best blog in the world. Some of us got an early start to the celebrations as we were out for a good ol'fashioned pub crawl 'n' curry last night (yes I'm feeling better, though I spent all night nursing 3 pints of Guinness - I know, I'm a slacker!).
My good friend gordonimmel was one of three of last night's crew celebrating (bemoaning??) adding another year to their personal tally, so for them, ToffeeBoy, The 'Spill, and all of us, here's a nice remix of an appropriate tune:
Sugarcubes - Birthday
LATE UPDATE: And after DaddyPig's excellent thought, here's ...
Little Village - Solar Sex Panel

Woo hoo! The party starts (continues?!) here!!
never heard that mix- thank you DsD
started my afternoon off in fine fettle.
Happy Birthday Gordon!
Always love to see what we look like, Immel's a twin for my mate Clyde!
@ DsD - I'm sure there's a perfectly good reason why you know when my birthday is - but I think I'm a couple of days (not to mention a year or two) older than the 'Spill.
I've been preparing for this year's celebrations with a trip to Specsavers. It comes to us all in the end I suppose...
What a great picture! Happy birthday, Gordonimmel and Toffeeboy.
Seeing myself on a photo reminds me of a Little Village (Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe & others) song "Solar Sex Panel" - about the supposed baldness-testosterone link. Now there's a myth and a half !
I 'nursed' two halves of bitter and a fair bit of sparkling water all night, but nonetheless had a great time, cheers to DsD for the invitation and Happy Birthdays to Gordon and to ToffeeBoy too.
From what she's said on the mothership this afternoon, I'm guessing that debbym has a birthday real soon aswell.
Thanks for the wishes, people. Birthday's actually on Monday but me and a mutual friend of me and Darceysdad (birthday 3 January) realised many years ago that people aren't interested in parties in the first week of January so we just sort ourselves out. Sometimes it's just him and me nursing a quiet pint (sigh!) but last night was a good turn out. Nice to meet Daddypig aswell.
Aw, congrats to the lovely boys, happy birthdays x
Congrats from me, too (yes, gordonimmel, it is my turn soon, but I've another 2 weeks to go yet). I think Sourpus also has a birthday round about now (anyone remember that post about what was #1 the day you were born? We turned out to be practically twins) - but where is he??? He hasn't posted anything for a couple of weeks now (or I've blinked and missed it)...
I notice you guys have found an alternative to the Grey Hair(s) Count (my head's not as nicely shaped as yours, though, so it wouldn't work for me)
Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone - I'll put them away in my sock drawer until Tuesday...
@ Debby - no, no West Country social as yet, but here's hoping!
@ Toffee - Yes it was sourpus' No.1s thread, or more specifically, the birthday bands offshoot from that thread. You called your band the Sixth Of Januaries; bit of a giveaway!
@ DaddyPig - ACE song suggestion ... may add it to the post when I get home tonight.
@ DsD - aah, my skills as a researcher never fail to ... expose me to ridicule!
I see it's Liverpool v. Everton in Round Four of the Cup. Bring it on!
Mine's on Wednesday - next year I'll chip in for the bouncy castle. Birthday joy to you all, DsD, GI & TfB... if you don't want to do the Solar Panel thing, may I recommend a good hat?
If we can identify a Spiller with a birthday today, we have a flush...
Birthday wishes, ShivSidecar. You aswell, eh? Is it a Capricorn thing with music blogs do you think?
BTW it wasn't Darceysdad's birthday this weekend (he's had his birthday already - in November - so we don't want to give him any more congrats, ffs!) it was our mutual friend who, for the purpose of this blog I'll call 'James'.
So I have to ask Shiv and Toffeeboy, do you find, like me and 'James' that, after Christmas and New Year NOBODY is interested in yet another party in the first week of January? And were you born far enough away from Christmas to avoid the dreaded 'two presents in one' from stingy relatives? Me, I was lucky 'cos I was actually due at Christmas but managed to hang on in there till January 5th (or 'born a year late' as I often like to express it).
Oh, and I'm not talking about football at the moment.....
I get presents... I've outlived most of my stingy relatives...
If you want somebody to pity, my brother's birthday is on Boxing Day. I sometimes give him a half-birthday present on June 26th to cheer him up...
Aha!! Now you see how smart I was in choosing my birthday date.
The two-presents-in-one thing was the curse of my childhood. Not only were they usually closer to one-and-a-half presents, but they were given on Christmas Day leaving me with 'just-a-little-something-extra' to open on my birthday.
Worst of all, my birthday is on twelfth night - the day all the decorations came down. That's it - there's no more celebrating and, nine times out of ten, it was the first day back at school!
The only advantage in having an early January birthday is that I can claim to be a year younger than ToffeeGirl although in fact it's only thirty days.
@ DaddyPig - Solar Sex Panel mp3 duly added above.
@ steenbeck - Hang on a mo' ... you CHOSE your birthday?!?!?!?!
♪"Tell me more, tell me more..."♪
[Sorry about that; DarceysMam bought herself the DVD of Grease with a Christmas prezzie voucher!]
@ Toffee - Hmmm, didn't see the draw myself, but yet again it was the first tie out of the bag: heated our respective numbered balls again, methinks, just like UEFA did with us & TNS in 2005. Anyway, yep, bring it on, two home games against you in a week!!
@ Shiv & the other birthday-ers - Darcey was actually due on Christmas Day, but fortunately she was so badly breech that the hospital TOLD us she was going to be caesared before she could think of starting naturally. They gave us a choice of three dates and we picked the earliest; almost a fortnight beforehand, so that Father Christmas had a chance for some last minute elf overtime in the workshop.
;o)
Teen Shoe The Younger celebrated her birthday on Dec 27, & your's truly was on the 30th. Good excuse to avoid work & stretch out the holiday - but you do tend to get shafted on the gift front as everyone's tapped out by Christmas.
Ah, but you'll have some belated discs coming from your fellow 'Spillers next month Shoey, providing I can figure out & reverse MediaPlayer's latest refusal to burn CDs. Belated Happy Birthdays.
Cheers DsD for posting the song. On the subject of Little Village, Nick Lowe's on tour later this year if anyone's interested (http://www.nicklowe.com/tourdates.php) - I'm seeing him at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester on 23rd May (my skilful brother planning ahead for my birthday, which is at a much better time of year thanks to my skilful parents).
He's also closer to home, in Holmfirth, on the 21st May.
Sympathetic thoughts to all with birthdays too close to the baby Jesus's. I'd offer something more expensive but you know, it's just after Christmas and everything...
Although we have differences in culture, but do not want is that this view is the same and I like that!
Very rich and interesting articles, good BLOG!
