Album of the Week
see more pwn and owned pictures
Tincanman and I were having a chat about Dropbox. I mentioned that I'd always thought if everyone in the RR nation lived in closer proximity, we'd just lend each other albums, and now with dropbox, in a sense we can. So then we thought it might be fun to have an "album of the week," to show up on Monday after deadline, or thereabouts. Somebody could put an album in dropbox, post a link on the 'Spill, and we could all share it and discuss it, and generally enjoy it. It could be a new album, something old you've just discovered, or something you've had for a while and re-discovered. Anything you're excited about at the moment. Any volunteers? (If you like the idea but you're befuddled by dropbox, just say so, and we'll figure a way to get the album in there.)

Here's a few possibilities to get the discussion rolling:
Everclear - Sparkle and Fade
Lemonheads - Come on Feel the Lemonheads
I Am Kloot - I Am Kloot Play Moulon Rouge
Joe Ely - Happy Songs From Rattlesnake Gulch
Lupe Fiasco - Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor
A vote from me for I Am Kloot. There's a couple of tracks I absolutely adore, but somehow they have yet to keep my attention for a whole album. I'd love the chance to give 'em another go if someone's got this one.
I could have got the album name right. It's MOOLAH ROUGE
i'VE GOT pLAY MOOLAH ROUGE
which folder do you want it posted in?
it would make a decent starting album.
I've just started up-loading it into the Album of the week folder is that okay with you lot?????
back in a minute once i've got my latitude tickets- hopefully!
Perfect shane, ty
(I knew suggesting Kllot would drag you into the mix)
And Dsd is now on the hook to suggest an album or two next week
(You see how I work? Sad, isn't it)
Extremely good idea, on which I will catch up when I get back. Anyone for some of the obscure gems from the oeuvre of Keith Tippett, which I'm discovering thanks to a load of cds from my stepson for my birthday?
Now how does it work to get people talking about it?
the first track from the recording of the album is on the tube.. here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6kDdG4BtU8
should we post that and then.. send everyone to Dropbox for the album - obviously it's not right to post all the songs on the spill.. so tin and steen could you take it from here. please.
er, we didn't get this far in our discussions.
We kinda only got so far as 'hey, what if we posted a thing saying...''
maybe we should start a new post called album of the week: moo..whatever rouge, along with links to a couple songs and a couple youtube links.
Is there a piece of a review we could post with it and say ok class, discuss?
should someone who knows the album say a few words?
Yay Saneshane! I'm excited to hear it. Tincanman's suggestion sounds perfect--if that's too much work, Shane, you could delegate someone to find a review, etc... or just put your opinion about it, cause you always have good things to say.
Abahachi, obscure Keith Tippett gems sound perfect.
I think this is a good opportunity to post things we don't think everyone will know/like. I've always enjoyed hearing new songs on podcasts, and always been surprised how much I like something I might not otherwise pay attention to, when it's accompanied by a bit of explanation and passion.
Thats exactly how I got into Lupe Fiasco, steen
Mmmm, just got to the delightfully slow 'Only Role In Town' on the IAK album. Gorgeous.
I think we've moved to the top post Dsd
@ abahachi .... good call on Keith Tippet, any amount of Mujician music would be worth a wider hearing.
Hey!
My!
What's that sound?
Is it the sound of you guys volunteering to head next week's discussion? Let me know if you need help with dropbox and links.
Yup, I'll step aside to let Tatanka & Abahachi do next week.
Um... steenbeck, there's a new Decemberists album out this week (at least, in the UK there is). I've just been giving it a listen while ironing my shirts, and it's fab (yes, even Colin Meloy's voice, which has been a sticking-point for me in the past).
Is there any reason why this is _not_ your album of the week?
Shivsidecar--I thought about it, and I do have the album, which I borrowed from an RR friend as it happens. I didn't want to go first, though, maybe we can feature it in the next few weeks, as there seems to be some RR interest in the Decemberists. After Abahachi and DsD...
Great idea, and a perfect use of the drop. I will look forward to hearing more - and reading about them. I can't imagine nominating an album myself (just not enough in the thick of things) but you never know - if it doesn't matter if no-one else likes it, I may muster up the gumption.
Now working my way through I Am Kloot, may be some time.
Was it a bird, was it a plane, nooooo, much faster than that; it was tincanman pulling the old "volunteers; one pace forward" trick. Keith Tippet was Abahachi's call but as a fellow enthusiast I'm happy to help out where needed. A lot of my KT is vinyl, but the digital delights that fell readily to hand include Dreamtime Zen Fish and Centipede Septober Energy ..... Chiquitippetita Abbahachi, Chiquitippetita ... in my best Peter Griffin inflection.
ok so as i read all the above, the rota is as follows:
tatanka
dsd
steenbeck
shiv
cauliflower
in dropbox and posted on spill monday
any questions or help needed with links, please email me and i'll sort it and get info to steenbeck to add to your spill post
steen are you up for keeping track of the rota?
