So, it's time for Polly Harvey to enter the fray, with a song that out-nirvanas Nirvana - up against the runaway winners of the quarter final - The Breeders.
Both songs feature some nifty axe work, and are mostly about shagging - BUT WHICH ONE IS THE BEST?

Don't have the horsepower to run Utoobs on the old phone - but have Electrelane put in an appearance yet?
Much as I love Polly, I love the Deal girls more, so it is The Breeders again for me.
Last Splash is my favourite of their albums too.
Breeders for me
@shoe - which one of their songs has the most "axe" in it? i'm not massively familiar with their oeuve.
off topic, has anyone heard jj yet? the swedish balearic / shoegaze duo?
Unless they're being keyboardy a la Stereolab, they like a good shred, either indipoppie:
Parade
or sonic youth, mogwai like post rockie:
Five
Take your pick.
PJ for me. Their first album was my favorite. Still love the Breeders though.
Have to say that I don't think this is Ms Harvey's greatest bit of axe work, but she still wins it for me.
Polly's cool, but the Breeders win it for me on this.
I'm ashamed to say that I don't have any albums by either of them though....will definitely put that right in due course!
@japanther - shame on you indeed!! quite frankly, i'm shocked! ;-)
@shoey - thanks for the links!
@Blimpy - you're right of course....I know i've let everybody down....not only myself but all of you too.....I am truly truly sorry for this unforgiveable oversight....i'm not asking for forgiveness....I know I don't deserve it!!
Peej for me.
I think the Breeeders have made the final....
NO! Do not make me choose! You bastard Blimpy. Peej is *there are no words*! But Divine Hammer is...SQUEEEE!
You can tell the English language is my bread-and-butter.
hi tracy, i'll take from that your vote lies with the 1993 duet betwix PJ & Kim when they covered "More Than A Feeling" for a very imited 7" release. I'd upload it, but I lent my copy to Speng, and it came back soiled and unplayable. I think Carole has a copy, for sale for 200,000 'Spill points....
Indeed I do own that single.
Their cover of Heart's These dreams on the B side is aaamaaazinggggg.
Actually, having spent all last night listening to The Breeders via Spotify, I'll give my vote to the underdog Breeders;Peej don't need to publicity from us to do quite well!
