Gremlinfc loves Queen of Shreddies

"...anyway , so, when the fillum stuff went pear-shaped i joined a band see, we were great , a specific genre and we had the queen...she didn't play like some of the shreddies on t'Spill but she really kicked Arsch and was loved by her loyal subjects...- here we are together looking bloody sexy. Obviously i'm me but who's she?
Which fillums about rock stars / bands do these quotes come from? Who said them for more points...
1.“According to legend, when Curt was 13 he was discovered in the family loo at the service of his older brother, and was promptly sent off for eighteen months of electric shock treatment. It was guaranteed the treatment would fry the fairy clean out of him, but all it did was make him go bonkers whenever he heard an electric guitar.”
2.“Side effects include: drowsiness, apathy, and blurred vision... I'm taking two”
3.“Mister big shot, mister pill poppin' rock star. Who are you to judge, you ain't got nothin', big empty house, nothin', children you don't see, nothin', big ol' expensive tractor stuck in the mud, nothin'...”
4.“We’ve got 4 chords in this song Michael“ (not out yet...)
5.“I saw you nicking my act” – “It’s Presley’s act , we’ve all nicked it!”(recent)
• On the soundtrack of which film did Bob Mould play guitar?
• Who said about whose role in which film from 2002 that the film would feature “the biggest twat in Manchester being played by the second biggest twat in Manchester.” ?

Was it Hooky who made the comment about Wilson/Coogan?

4. Spinal Tap II ?

5. is so damned familiar it's going to keep me awake, which I could really do without.

Right, that's my blogging quota for the week!

Bedtime: alarm in 5h19min & counting.

5 is from a fillum which features the first British band to have a US number 1 (NOT the Fab4) ...

That'll be Hooky talking about Steve Coogan playing Tony Wilson in 24 Hour Party People, I would guess!

Sourpus - you have it! I always thought Steve Coogan was OK but hey what do us 'normal people' know! I saw Hooky at Sheffield Uni as part of the "Off the Shelf" lit fest Oct 2009 and it was a hour and half well spent - question & answer sesh with audience - honest bloke it seems.

A nudge...
1. Ewan MacGregor
2. Realted to 5
3. Phoenix from the flames
4. Timid?
5. Points for Blimpington , Sourpus & DsD - 24 Hour Party People - Hooky - Coogan.

1. Curt Wild fae Velvet Goldmine, the Cobain looking Iggy character. Midly bonkers film that one.

2. One of the many Joy Division films that came out recently? Probs, "COntrol"??

Monsieur le Blimpo gets 1 + 2 on the button - deux points. Nice 1 Cyril

Telstar was the US No #1, i think, but I don't know who recorded it.

gremlinfc said...

B=Mc2 you are absolutely spot on dude - the quote about nicking Elvis' act is from the Biopic about Joe Meek and the band was his backing band "The Tornados". Point to you.
That just leaves quote number 3...
...oh and the identity of the gee-tar-ista

Makinavaja said...

Number 3 is from "Walk the Line", I think. Johnny Cash's dad being a bit cross.

gremlinfc said...

Mr. Maki you've completed the quiz! Point to you for that knowledgable spot from the "Walk The Line" fillum. yes he was rather peeved wasn't he?

Makinavaja said...

Thing is GFC, I saw it in Spanish so it took a while for the penny to drop! (No, they didn't dub the songs - they have done that in the past, though. Torture, pure torture!!)

gremlinfc said...

What's the title in Spanish?
How are you on the Almodovar fillums?

Makinavaja said...

It was "En la Cuerda Floja" (On the tightrope). Re Almodovar - loved the earlier stuff up to (and including) Tacones Lejanos (High Heels). Since then I've only really liked Volver. He seems to spend too much time being Almodóvar these days and not enough time creating. An opinion, of course. If I had to pick a favourite - it would be "Entre Tinieblas" for the irreverence and the evocation of the "esperpento" plot-lines and situations that actually owe a lot to Valle-Inclán!!

gremlinfc said...

That's interesting as a title would never have guessed it!
Agree with you about Alomodovar - absolutely LOVE 'Volver' and there's a track I like called "Espigadores" sung by Conchita Panades - quite like the soundtrack by Alberto iglesias too.
would have to add "Mala educacion" to the list of likes too...but my bestest spanish fillum of recent years was "El laberinto del fauno" - magic...

Makinavaja said...

El Laberinto was ace and won Maribel Verdú her first and long overdue Goya (Bafta equivalent). If you want a recommendation for a really good but totally mad Spanish film check out "Amanece Que No Es Poco" (1988 - José Luis Cuerda). Not one to watch with the students, I fear.

gremlinfc said...

will do...thanks to amazon etc you can get just about anything, no matter how obscure - 2 from south America i love :"Bombon" about the big dog - and "La familia rodante" which i think is from Argentina- ace stuff.

Makinavaja said...

El Hijo de la Novia (also from Argentina) lost a lot in translation and came over a bit maudlin. Have you seen the cuban film Fresa y Chocolate? If not, do.

gremlinfc said...

With this nieva i think i might have time to watch quite a few!

gremlinfc said...

of course that should have said nieve...

Makinavaja said...

Ha caido un poco de nieve aquí también. Looks like a quiet DVD based weekend is on the cards here too.

Makinavaja said...

Oh and the Bob Mould thing was Hedwig and the Angry Inch - haven't seen it but it's been recommended.

gremlinfc said...

Another Spill point for el hombre! I'll send you a snowy picture from Steel City - watch your inbox!

Makinavaja said...

I'll see if the fog lifts and do likewise with the view across the Casa de Campo to the mountains (See Debby's post above) tomorrow. Thanks.
