Very very sorry to hear the news, RockingMitch.

I haven't been on the list recently, Rocking Mitch, but I can only guess at the news from this, and I am deeply, deeply sorry.

My thoughts are with you.

I'm pretty terrible at this sort of thing. There's a character in Anthony Powell who says of himself, "I never know the right moment to squeeze the bereaved's arm at a funeral", and that's me. Of course there aren't any words that can make this better; we fall back on the old standards because it's important to say something, to show that our thoughts really are with you. Heartfelt condolences.

I hope that you can take comfort from the good wishes of friendly strangers, Mitch, because there are an awful lot out here, mine included. And from music, of course.

Thinking of you Mitch. Manly hugs from Budapest at this time of bereavement. We're all at your side, I think so.

Not much to add except much love from us here too xxx

@ DsD - just listening to the Natalie Merchant song and trying to watch the slide show through decidedly damp eyes. People shouldn't be allowed to write such beautifully, sad, poignant songs. Fantastic choice ...

Our deepest sympathies, Mitch, and heartfelt condolences. I can't say it any better than anyone above me, but know that all these people feel enough to say it so well.

For John91, and anyone else who comes here looking: RockingMitch's wife was diagnosed with cancer a little while ago, and she has just died.

@DsD - This song is unbearably beautiful. I didn't know it. (My ignorance knows no bounds. My wife, who, as I think you know, is ill, has always been charmed by the English endearment "beloved" and has worn a small tag on a necklace with this word engraved on it for the last twenty five years. Thank you for this song. It is beautiful.

I can only echo what's been said earlier, Mitch. Hope our sympathy and condolences can help in some way.

@ Maki - "ill", but on the mend, I thought ...? Hope so.

My Beloved Wife is from Natalie Merchant's solo debut album, Tigerlily, which I love so much I bought the CD twice. Fantastic album.

@ everyone - I have had a thank you from Mitch for all of our thoughts and wishes, both here and over on the mothership.

G'night all.
