HOly smoke!! I'm a mess, people. I'm all weepy, and I've only read the first few. I love you all. Sniff sob. Thank you.
Birthday best for one one my favorite Spillers, and where's RR again?
I know I speak for all of us in saying all my love, Mrs.A!
Love and kisses from this corner of earth too, Steen!
Hey Happy Birthday when it comes :)
40; you are just a kid with a crazy dream .... dream on sweetie
Please don't make me do a post like that again!!!
This comes in a triple album real copy too.. you just have to wait a little while.. have a great birthday.. it's the getting up to them that's hard.. the day can be enjoyed (I hope)
Hugs and kisses from the sane household xxxxx
Many happy returns steen, from all the frods and proto-frods. Have a good one, x
Have a happy Ladysteen
happy birthday Steen, and great artwork as always shane
Yep, awesome work, Shane. We all owe you, too.
Happy happy birthday Steenbeck!
Japanther, just got this message from a friend...
Hey Claire,
In Japan, it's your birthday already, and I can report that it is a beautiful day.
Thank you all so much for this. This has been weirdly hard for me, and this whole community helps more that I can say. I love this concept, and cannot cannot wait to listen. Thank you thank you thank you.
Um, starting with Thank You, that's from me, not my friend in Japan.
Special thanks to Saneshane for all this and the beautiful art. ANd I just wanted to tell tincanman and Cauliflower that kind things they've said in e-mails have resonated with me, and I think about them many a time.
Love you all. Goodnight.
Happy Birthday Lady S. I'll post a photo of your French namesake this week end. Bisous FP.

Saneshane - Back of the net...
Alles gute! Hang in there, it's not so bad...
Great work, shane.
Happy Birthday from me and Nicola!
I hope it is sunny where you are because, being Glastonbury weekend, it is thundery and raining here in SW England.
Hi Steenbeck, hope you have a wonderful birthday - 40's a great age, make the most of it!
@ Tatanka
''just a kid with a cray dream..'
Thatsh all right shweetheart, you'll always have Paris
Have a great day, steenbeck. Thinking about you!
Happy Birthday, Steen!
Many Happy Returns.
Happy Birthday Steen! You're fab!
Happy Birthday, Steenbeck. Take it from me it's easier from now on because, after all, you are over the hill.....
GORDON ... !! Sorry about my friend there, steenbeck.
And is the final list of sleevenotes available anywhere? I'd love to know what everyone said about their nominations . . .
. . . or don't you ask that about someone else's present?
Happy birthday Steen. Take no notice of Gordon there. You're not over the hill until you get your bus pass.
DsD, open up the rtf link at the top in Word. You'll see all the links
Excellent stuff.
There's a really good, rockier version of Ciocarlia Si Suite by the Moldovan band Zdob Si Zdub too.
Thanks, Mn, that worked.
Excellent work everyone. I take it though, that we couldn't find an mp3 of Dorian's selection, as he appears to have fallen off the list?
Oh, and um, Mnemonic? I can't let a pets RR topic slide past without enquiring after Zissou ... (sorry)
@mnemonic: oy!
Thanks for the enquiries but despite posters, leaflets, desperate searching and calling, there has been no sign of Zissou since 10 May. I keep changing the water in her bowl, cleaned the litter tray, washed her bed cover in case she returns, cried a bit, but I have less and less hope that she'll reappear.
Oh.
I'm sad now, and doubly sorry for feeling the need to bring it up.
Don't worry Dsd, I'm happy she's remembered.
Er, sorry Steenbeck, I wasn't being serious obviously, I just can't resist saying that one whenever anyone reaches 40.
Good morning everyone. Gordonimmel--it made me laugh. You don't know how many people told me it was hard just before turning 40 but you don't even think about it the next day.
Sorry there's no better news about zissou, Mnemonic. DId I tell you the story of our cat, Gladly? When we went to England for a year, she ran away just after we left. A few days after we got home, she jumped in through the window and bit my mother on the nose. She lived in the wild for a year!
Your mum lived in the wild for a year cause a cat bit her?
Happy Birthday, steen! Forty? I'm fairly sure it's the new thirty, so nothing to worry about. Have a good one.
(And you can now join in the footy chat for real, as your national team is in the final of the Confederations Cup, having deservedly beaten Spain, the champions of Europe. Can they beat Brazil in Sunday's final? I hope so.)
Tincanman--yes! They made a TV movie about it.
Happy Birthday, Steenbeck!!!!
I'm late to the party as always but I just wanted to add my love, hugs and all that sort of stuff, along with my gratitude for all the wonderful music you expose us all to. You are single-handedly responsible for introducing me to The Decemberists who are now officially my favourite band ever - and there's much more besides - probably even some B-sides!
@ tincanman ..... "don't reach for the moon, .. we have the stars ... " .. 'Hic' ... speshlly fur U ... a present in the Dropbox
And .... expecting picture of the cake later Ms Beck .. ;)
And then I went and spoiled it all by saying something stupid like .... I added 'We'll never get to Paris' ... I'd promised GF a taster of some of this stuff afte rmy Bergen jaunt last month. Might drop a few more bits and blobs in there over the weekend.
Coming very late to this, but I hope you've had a magnificent birthday, steenbeck, and that you'll find time to listen to YOUR birthday compilation real soon!
Sharivari- I'd be interested to hear that Zdob si Zdub track.. Fanfare Ciocarlia are playing here tomorrow night coincidentally, will probably miss it though owing to street festival and school theatre production.
A belated Balearic birthday best from me too! I joined the 40-club earlier this year too. It ain't so bad is it? Best wishes and keep recommending that hip-hop! x
Belatedly, happy birthday Steenbeck. This wonderful playlist doesn't include the best song I know about New Jersey and getting older... although I'm sure you're nothing like the woman in the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxnvAZ747NY
Ah I was hoping I wasn not going to miss this, belated Happy birthdqy Steenbeck, it's always a surreal joy to see your name, hugs from here too, you're a true star.
Happy birthday, Claire. We hope the songs bring a smile.
Shane: the link to the list of songs doesn't seem to work. Can you put a COPY of the actual file into the steen playlist folder in RRdropbox?
cheers
Tin
Sorry to be late to the par-tay, Year 11 Prom last night, so knackered and emotional and blistery. Hope your day was equally fun and that your shoes fit better than mine, birthday lady! xxx
And obviously well done Shane, must ahve been a mammoth task!
claire playlist.doc
is now in the steen dropbox music file (I hope)
Sorry to have missed out Dorians.. I don't think either tin or I got the tune...
New Jersey Deep – Black Science Orchestra
- Dorianlynskey
Because NJ is adjacent to NY and steenbeck is a Joisey Girl (albeit maybe not one with an accent). And because I think there should be something summery to dance to.
(the only track I have is Head Space Lullaby - Black Science Orchestra.. so not quite right!!!)
if anyone has the correct tune - I could add it to the physical copy - winging it's way to steen sometime before she hits 41.
I'm ripping the audio from youtube now, Shane, and I'll email it later.
(Cheers AGAIN, BaBe!)
;o)
er, shane, after all the great work you've done, I hate to point out that the last page of claire playlist is missing. But I just did.
'steen chain playlist'
thanks Chris.. it should now all be under that heading..
I have to thank tin as well for all the organizing and files and stuff.. cheers mate.
and ta DsD.
hope it's all ok now.
Shane,
I've got two versions of The Black Science Orchestra tune (from Dorian to Claire) ripped from youtube, but the 7min remix is too big a file to Hotmail, and the 4min one refuses to attach. I'm copying them into the steen chainlist dropbox instead. Is that OK?
perfect
I'll grab a copy for the cds..cheers
I've just done a shanes pet folder
some off topic pet songs 2 for you:
'Love Dog' Vices - Roughs (not sure the right band name for this, it's not the same track as my post love dog.. it has that 70's rock feel that that screams to me DsD... listen and tell me I'm barking up the wrong tree!)
'To The Dogs Or Whoever' Josh Ritter (I'm Guessing you do have this - but I haven't been back to RR to see.. but I love some of the lyrics in this)
Yeah, I can see that with the Love Dog song, Shane. I can't find a reference to the right band name either, though it sounds like someone newish and English trying overly hard to make us believe they're early 90s Seattle.
that's true
it seems their name is
VICES
once again easy to look up! not. they are from Reading so obviously grew up with the festival on the doorstep... and got influenced.
AT LAST!
I've been to bed once, but Tatanka's quote right at the top of the comments has been bugging me all weekend: finally pinned it down, and am ashamed it took me this long.
First line of this song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=la7eAaak-nY
BTW, Tatanka, was this your source?
My source ... Jackie Leven, commenting admiringly on Leonard Cohen's words when he played in the uk at the start of this new period of touring.
"It's been 15 years since I stood up on a stage," he says, reminding his audience of how privileged they are.
"Fourteen, 15 years ago when I was 60 – a young kid with a crazy dream – then I took a lot of Prozac."
