Well, I got no job and I got no pay



Coal Tattoo is one of my very favourite songs (and it's easy to play on the guitar) and here it is on John Peel's Perfumed Garden radio programme sung by Shawn Phillips, who wrote it. EDIT: whoops, no he didn't: it was Billy Ed Wheeler.

Ahl gy thee a dond lass, I haven't heard that since the '50's but the lyrics came back as he sang: #9 coal, tattoo on the side of me head etc.

No, it's on Live In Dublin. The whole album sounds as if everyone's having the most tremendous fun...
