AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

Spotify has gone!!! The latest upgrade to McAffee Virusscan has declared that it contains a virus, automatically deleted it and refused to countenance reinstalling it. Consensus on the web seems to be that this is a McAffee error rather than a genuine Trojan, but there seems to be nothing anyone can do until they issue a new update. I suppose it's good to know that my anti-virus programme is working automatically, but suddenly my morning is turned upside-down.

For more information, and perhaps the first news of a solution, see http://getsatisfaction.com/spotify/topics/mcafee_security_2009_virus_issues

Apparently the Spotify people are all on holiday for the next four days, so no official statement from them at all. Various people have suggested disabling one's virus programme, but on the whole that doesn't seem a terribly good idea.

And I have to confess that my first thought this morning was that it was all Mrs Abahachi's fault...

My Comodo anti-virus also doesn't like spotify all of a sudden.

Could just be a false positive, but unless you really really really need it, why take the chance?

Oh I want Spotify, right enough, but as Abahachi said, not to the extent of disabling my anti-virus!

It can wait until next week; I'm away most of the time anyway.

Any (post 4.30pm) joy yet, Abahachi?

I've just asked McAfee for updates twice in the last ten minutes, but it says I'm up to date, and is still deleting Spotify.

Mine is corporate, so I'll just have to wait for their regular update - tomorrow if I'm lucky, or Tuesday. No fair.

The CD fights back - dirty tricks allowed, yeah?

This should send a red flag about getting too dependent on spotify, shouldn't it? It is underwritten by the major labels and runs at a loss. Now why would people who are crying poverty from illegal downloads be giving away free access to their artists at a loss?

Enjoy it, but as with all things digital, don't get all your musical eggs in one basket. True musical freedom remains your own music collection, suitably backed up offsite. (Why do we always assume it is someone else's house which will burn or get robbed?)

@ Abahachi - you know, I was thinking it was your wife's fault as well. Are you sure it's not?

Well, having spent large chunks of yesterday sorting out what she'd done to her business phone and internet connection, I was still wondering until McAfee issued a clear statement on the subject. Besides, she really doesn't have the technological capability to affect anyone else's computer, just this one...

@ Abahachi - OK, we'll let her off this once. But she needs to know that the spotlight is very firmly on her ...

Anyone still reading down here?

Just tried to open a Spotify playlist, to find that my McAfee has chucked it in the bin AGAIN!

Anyone else having a repeat problem??

I downloaded the software again today and it's working fine. Don't know what will happen on the next scan though.

Thanks, Mn. Yeah, me too, so I'm listening to Snadfrod's Canadian playlist now without a problem.

Fingers crossed for the next update/scan then . . .
