Two For Tuesday

two for tuesday. one for the future and one from the past. one laid back, one loud and lairy.
i am currently listening to the belle and sebastian bbc sessions album.
it's fab, but then i would say that. b&s fans will be overjoyed at the four (four!!) previously unreleased songs. those new to b&s can maybe have it as an introductory greatest hits sorta thing. the song i'm posting even namechecks john peel as they sang it for him, and is just amazing.
if you're like jack black's character in high fidelity, and you don't like this fey, lilly livered typa stuff, the other song is more for you.
titus andronicus' eponymous song comes on like the clash, bright eyes, and andrew wk having a scrap in the carpark out the back of the black bull after drinking 12 pints with shane mcgowan.
all together now - "your life is over, your life is over, your life is OVER!"
the b&s LP is out now, a more hi-fi version of the titus andronicus will be out in january.

to get a sneaky listen to a track off the new ac album, before it's taken down. bodes well for 09!!

Q. Why are indie boys so crap in the sack?

Did you hear about the bassist who locked his keys in the van?

It took him two and a half hours to get the drummer out.

How many indie kids does it take to change a lightbulb?

Why? How many?

I've been saving the B&S all day like some crazy miser, and am now about to listen....

That new Common album?...I like the Cee Lo track, but the rest... I, like, totally liked Resurrection? and I like, totally don't understand why he can't just keep making resurrection? Like, Over and over? I mean, why does he have to try something different? Totally.

i was gonna save the b&s for xmas, but then i started listening to them on my ipod throughout the day. game over really.

oddly enough, me trying to listen to the common/ceelo track made my web browser crash (which it never does!) so i never got to hear it in the end. i'll go back. personally speaking i love that common feat. lily allen track so much, that that's kinda all i really need from him - cheesy as that tune is. but i do know what you mean 'bout artists changing up. i woulda rather had "the bends part two" than "ok computer" (ducks for cover)

Swoon. I loved the Belle and Sebastian. I heard a bit of Niko in his voice when he said "room." I liked the Titus Andronicus too, but it jarred a bit with the mood B&S put me in.

I was mostly kidding about Resurrection, but when I heard the new album, some cranky old woman in me was saying "whippersnapper! What's up with this crazy pop music?"

Boom and indeed Tish, Blimpy! Although I have to say, that joke did appeal to the record nerd in me.

Liked both the tracks, especially the B&S, which i'd never heard...

BTW, it looks like my last attempt to cling to an vinyl existence has finally fallen away as I was presented with my first iPod last night as a late B'day present from Mrs Japanther....can't seem to fit the records into the side of it though....

hey japanther - great post on 7" singles, which i will reply to in time.

vinyl and ipod can be done!! i was very skeptical at first ( i got my ifrst ipod in 2004 i think) but now have the policy that if i have something on vinyl that i don't also have a digital version (for the most part). This way i still have my beloved hand-on thing of going over to the record player and getting the records out etc. i can't see myself doing that thing of digitising all the vinyl - i like the fact that it takes up so much room in my lounge!!

i just wish i could afford more records!

A. What? You don't know?

I know how many folk singers it takes. 1 to change the bulb & 3 to sing about how much they miss the old one.

How many riot grrrrls does it take to change a lightbulb?

Blimpy said...

None, they'll never change anything..........(such a bad joke that one)
