Found in the Video Store - Big Night (1996)

McFlah's, make notes.

This is the movie you should rent, purloine or otherwise procure by any means necessary. This movie fits your 'what should we rent?' parameters to a shiny little tee. Stanley Tucci's brilliant 'Big Night'. Definitely, one of sourpus's all time favorite flicks.

Spillers, also lend an ear.

If you have never heard the soundtrack album for this film - get it. Simple as.

There. I've stuck my neck out.

It was a good one, sourpus. I love love love that last scene--it's an emotional climax, but it's mostly silent, just a fellow frying an egg (I don't think that counts as a spoiler)--long long shot. At least that's how I remember it. And I think I bought a Louis Prima album after seeing this film.

Blimpy, you need have no regrets

Steen, Louis Prima is on the soundtrack too, as you know, but only a couple of songs. The revelation of the soundtrack album comes from track one onwards - so full of life and energy and joy you could almost bottle it and sell it for 'Old Dr MrFlatter's Instant Pick-me-up morning gargle'. They also got the mix of songs spot on, as well the levels of the recording. More than worth the time and effort it takes to get hold of an original CD copy - even without ever seeing the film, its a true gem.

I liked that, my best friend is half-italian, and he's almost fascist-like when it comes to Italian food. We once a 4-day argument because I had used my knife to pick out the clams form the shell, and then I was told numerous cautionary tales like the German tourists sprinkling heaps of Parmesan cheese on their lobster linguine. But putting Cola in your white wine is ok apparently...

you got me hooked, too.. starchwise I'm reminded of Sandra's father, who eats bread with everything, especially potatoes, and of a German friend who once bemoaned the lack of "crumbles" in a supposedly breadcrumbed serving of Haddock he once ordered in Inverness.. the wierd thing most Germans do with pasta is try to eat it with a spoon and fork, although my father tops that by using a knife and fork to eat spaghetti...
