NEW DYLAN!

Dylan's 33rd studio album will be released in a couple of weeks, here's a cut from it, complete with accordion.

I have listened to this as well, but as someone who has an irrational dislike of the man (there's a select group!), it's not my place to make a constructive comment.
Nice Bouncy tune though if there's an instrumental.

I save my irrational dislikes for several others,
Now there's a topic, Who are your irrational [or otherwise] dislikes and why?

actually, I had an idea for a Spill feature called "OK, convince me", most prejudice is based on ignorance, so, I thought it would be good if someone could nominate their irrational hatred and others could post tracks/links etc that they think would change their mind about the person.

I have a deep hatred for Queen and a completely irrational disdain for (and this may be a bit of a sacred cow!) Stevie Wonder. His constant "uh uhh"'s just seem so contrived and irritate the hell out of me!

Like the Dylan track, my Dad was a big big Dylan fan and I grew up listening to the back catalogue almost constantly in the back of the car. I recently read his autobiography (was there ever a Volume 2??) too and found it a brilliant read.

I try to justify Dylan not being an irrational dislike by me. It's just that crap voice! I invariably like covers of his songs.

My MASSIVE case of irrational hatred is John Lennon. Anyone who manages to convince me that his songwriting, singing or playing merits even a tenth of the adulation he gets should get a job PRing for Obama!

I try to keep my mind open, but maybe Guns'n'Roses come close, a residue of teenage rock/rap turf wars, but I've even accepted that Sweet Child o' Mine is a good tune.

DsD: I had thought that we might be on the verge of becoming friends but I see that's all out the window. Not Dylan AND John and certainly not MASSIVE, those are two on my top 10 plus I'd love to be involved in anything Obama does. Sorry mate.
I deferred from making a list when I wrote that first line but there's a couple of items on the G's front page that fit, can't stand that Love woman plus there was a list of the 25 all-time greatest albums, Michael Jackson was at the top of the list, he'd also be top of my list plus any at random from the other 24!

Shouldn't a said that, I like Lauryn Hill plus a coupla' three of the others.

I have an R&B blindspot, usually not enough of either for me. So I'm with JP on Stevie Wonder. Time to do the what's black & walks into pianos joke.

DsD, I gotta agree with you on Lennon. I know he's revered and idolized and all that, and maybe he was great, but he had his head so far up his ass he hadn't a clue what he was saying or doing IMHO.

Dylan, on the other hand, I do get. Can't listen to that voice for long, but amazing songs.

And Springsteen, as expressed elsewhere on here tonight, is good at writing but terrible at music IMHO.

Sorry for overstating the case re Bob Dylan, goneforeign. I really can see the talent, skill dedication and quality; I love several of his songs. I just wish he could sing! So I suppose. donds to what tincanman said.

And my Obama line was only because I can see the backlash at him UNFAIRLY starting already. He needs all the help he can get, and he ain't going to get it from our one-eyed Scottish idiot (a bullseye, Clarkson, you dental-hygeine-dodging, racist smug git).

Lennon, on the other hand ...
Too much of what I know of JL's output is fourth-form quality poetry, or teeth-grindingly annoying, hypocritical pontificating. [At least his sentences made sense though, DsD. - Ed, clutching copy of Shaved Fish)]. Donds to what tincanman said.

Erm, tinny, before I manage to offend/slander anyone else, do you want a job re-writing MY speeches?

LMAO DsD, I think I dig bigger holes than you.

how macho that sounds

DsD: I know exactly what you mean re. Dylan's voice and may have said similar things in the past but with age I've come to appreciate the way he sings, especially his early stuff. There's been dozens of covers but none do 'em like Dylan.
I have a much harder time with Tom Waits, I reach for the off switch when he comes on.
