Dropbox & Spotify invites for newbies

If you don't have a Dropbox invite yet, email rr@tincanland.com

If you live outside the UK, you will have trouble getting Spotify to work. It has worked for some of us by having the account created in the UK (although you may have to have someone in the UK log in once every couple weeks on your behalf. Apparently you are allowed a couple weeks of vacation log in). Again, email rr@tincanland.com if you need that set up for you.

I recently recommended boncEnc as a converter for music files because I was using it and it worked great, but, grrr, it does not like DRM so I am back to MediaCoder. It's free (open source) and does sound and video, and the only reason I suggest using anything else is because MediaCoder has slightly more head scratching to decide which format/settings you want. It's powerful and universal and does anything you could want, however. (For dropbox, I am happy to batch convert files the people have dropped in, so don't worry what format they are. If you start messing without knowing what your own system needs, you could mess up your own mediaplayer.)

cheers

I use Dropbox to sync my 1password keychain and other settings between my two Macs. I have set mine up where I do not use any aliases to make it work. I simply point the app pref or data location to the Dropbox file on the machine.

I have tried that using the free version of Dropbox, that comes with 2 GB, and really like. Gives you a good feeling, when you know your data is safely backuped and your computers are in sync.

Right now the have a special offer. Anybody who signs up with my referral will get add another 256MB of storage space. So will I :). Just use the following link:

Not sure what Spotify is but with the deluge of stuff on dropbox (thanks again), don't have much time for any other toys. Haven't been over to last FM in months.
