Fantasy Football

Hmmmmmmmm. Like my own real life team, I am out of the top four places and looking like I can't get back.

Did I hamstring my chances by deciding up front that I wouldn't have any players from Man U, Chelsea or Spurs?

Or, like the Arse, have injuries plagued my season?

No, I'd call that a principled stand, Carole.

Neither Gordon nor I ever include any Stretford Scum in our FF teams either. I think Snadfrod's the same.

And talking of Snadfrod, he got his team in on Day 1 of the season. By the time I got mine in, I'd missed a couple of games and started 221 pts behind him. My own fault I know, but if I finish the season in 2nd place, and with less than a 200 pt deficit, I'll be claiming a moral victory.

My beloved Arse is causing me a lot of pain and discomfort at the moment.

I've lost any morales I ever had in the unidond league... I now switch forwards/keepers that I don't want in my team...but they can't be in yours dsds or gordons.

we do need a math expert to take out snads first week score.

(I have done a nice picture for a post, when we get to the run in of the season..so we can have a moan about our teams and a bragging right fest)

but at least sane city fc are not going down.. un-like reality of my team!

Speaking as someone who got his team in on the first day of the season and is still mired in mid-table mediocrity, looking edgily over my shoulder having already abandoned any hope of a UEFA Cup place, I'm a little worried by all this talk about points deductions. How many relegation places are there, anyway?

By the way, yesterday on my way to work, I was stuck in a carriage full of Man and Spurs supporters, which was difficult for me...

Man U fans are the worst.

Evening all. Just felt I should point out that I operate, as always, a strict ABU policy in team selection. BUT any success I may have experienced should also be appreciated in the knowledge that I have always had AT LEAST three City players in my side. And City as we all know, are absolute toss every other week.

As for my good start to the season, though, I give you two words: Martin. Laursen.

Now, DsD, you can cry all you like about points gaps, but the table doesn't lie. Oh no.

Oh and, BettorFan, I couldn't agree more.

Depends on the point-scoring system of your league, Carole. If it's like most, everyone on your team can score points for assists and goals, and defenders/keeper score for clean sheets but lose points for conceding, I reckon that's a decent approach. Draw a back four principally from the top five and they'll get you points. Budget depending, if you had, say, Friedel-Sagna/Evra-Vidic-Laursen-Arbeloa in defence, that'd be a decent foundation.

You talking about the Unidond or the Premiership, Snadfrod? Neither gap is realistically gonna get closed, is it?

I am talking about the Guardian Fantasy Fooball, Gareth.

I wouldn't have that back four though.

No Man U, Chelsea or Spurs players in any team of mine thanks all the same, do Vidic and Evra won't ever feature.

Weirdly, actually, it seems that BUSY defenders and goalkeepers score best, hence Scott Carson, Titus Bramble, Andy O'Brien and Christopher Samba being pretty good bets. Odd, but true.

DsD - I am, of course, referring to your moral victory plan in the Unidond. The Premiership, even for someone of my optimistic bent, might just be a gap too far to bridge....

Do they score points for saves, blocks, etc? In the days I used to do FF, defenders only scored for clean sheets and goals.

Carole, that's a very principled stand. A colleague of mine is mired in mid-table, this season as he was last, because unlike the teams above his, he refuses to have that preening Portugese pompadour in his side.
