OK, so it appears I'm six months late with this...

Anybody played this silly game on the Guardian website?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicblog/2009/mar/04/1

Not a new internet craze, apparently, but new to me. You use some random generators to come up with band name, album title and cover artwork.

I was ready to dismiss it, but my first attempt turned up "You want to move on" by If Paris Were Told To Us, which seemed too good to waste. I'm already in love with this debut album by the cult orchestral art-rockers, released on Les Disques de Crepuscule in 1999. Yes, some people find their references to 1950s French movies and Jacques Brel fixation a little pretentious, but it's a gorgeous melancholy feel to it. I think they're my new favourite band.

+UPDATE+ DsD has just pointed out that you were all doing this back in August, and I missed all the fun. Check the comments for the link. Enjoy (re)discovering these lost classics.

Ah, Barbryn, where were you last summer?

GarethI stumbled across a similar game and got us all started. In true RR/Spill style it snowballed out of all proportion, culminating in my all-time favourite Spill post, ToffeeBoy's work of true creative genius ... [link to follow]

Brilliant! I can't believe I missed all the fun.

I also can't believe Simon Cowell hasn't yet signed nilpferd's Ko Ko Mo (I Love You So) with their "Lovest what is lovely".

Now, where did I put my BPM box set...?

It was one of the great 'Spill threads. An absolute gem, especially when it got transported over to the Mothership, causing no end of confusion.

I was playing it at lunch today, I discovered two musical gems that somehow managed to avoid the glare of publicity when they were first released.

If anyone is still interested, I'll post them.

Wasn't expecting B.P.M. to show up again until September in the Labours of Toffeecleus part 9: "The End of Pop".
