tfd's 60th birthday bash!

All 'Spillers are most cordially invited to my birthday party this Saturday, March 7 - bring a musical instrument if you've got one! (Or if not, don't worry cos my son Matt has a house full of 'em.) The picture is a clue to where the party is, as I'm not so daft as to be putting the address of a party on the interweb. No, the party is not actually AT the Alamo. That wouldn't be allowed!

You can rsvp in the comments. Even if you can't come, though, you can still join in the challenge, which is to identify as many songs about or mentioning San Antonio as you can. Here are some to start you off.

San Antonio Rose - Patsy Cline
What Am I Doing Hanging Round - The Monkees
Lo and Behold - Bob Dylan and the Band
Guitar Town - Steve Earle

Would you believe, Ms. Frogdemon, that I am going to be in San Antonio this weekend, testing a new range of frozen margharitas? No, didn't think you would somehow...
I shall, however, spend an evening *Buffying* in your honour (possibly even Series 2) and may even break open the Dorothy Dunnett (gasp!).
I'm pretty sure Lyle Lovett must have a selection of San Antonios to choose from in his repertoire, it is his neck of the woods after all. Shall put more thought into this once msdebbyjr's had her bath (assuming she hasn't drownded me in the process; our bathroom tends to get WET).

I hope you have a truly wonderful morning, noon and night on-the-day in question!

I'm jealous. I haven't been to Texas in about 3 years. I like the southwest.

Well, it doesn't look like Watford to me so I'll have to pass! Can't think of any San Antonio-ish songs off the top of my head but I'll keep thinking.

Hope you have a fantastic day.

Unfortunately I will not be able to attend, but I know Charley Pride's Is Anybody Goin' To San Antone? and I have a few songs about Saint Anthony.

Oh, happy happy birthday Treefrogdemon!!!! I'm sure I can think of some songs, when I'm back home.

We recently watched Pee Wee's Big Adventure with the boys (they were freaked out, and didn't enjoy it very much--parenting fail. Although it was recommended by the video renting site as a movie for kids their age) anyway...The stars at night, are big and bright, Deepinahearta...

That was me, Steenbeck, I'm away from home...

And now she's Christina. No wonder her (their?) tastes are so broad. How many people are steenbeck? It's a committee, or commune or co-operative isn't it?

Many Happy Returns, TFD.

Have a happy happy birthday..
can I add the Pixies b side 'Santo'
just because you wont be old enough .. but it has the line
"pouting grandma in a corner passing time.."
it gives me a great image of my mum being petulant now.. turning the tables on my teenage years.. so long ago now..

(I'll try and strum my bright orange ukulele for you and my four year old will bash drums.. have a cool one)

¡HOLA BLIMPY!

Johnny Cash hears a train bound for San Antone in Fulsome Prison Blues...

...And time keeps draggin' on,
But that train keeps a-rollin',
On down to San Antone....

Or something. I'm not sure how the train fits into the song.

I have San Antonio Rose by Bob Willis and his Texas Playboys. Yeehaw!! I can dropbox it if you'd like.

(Sorry about the anonymous/alter ego posts, Christina is Mr. Steenbeck's sister, and I always nab her computer to rudely check 'Spill/RR action.)

Hmmm... can't help noticing that one Richard Thompson has just completed a mini-tour of Texas: http://www.richardthompson-music.com/Tour.asp . Coincidence? I should coco...

On Saturday night I'll raise my last bottle of Shepherd Neame Winter Hop to you, tfd. The second 60 years are the best, they say.

Happy happy birthday tfd - I can't think of any San Antonio songs but I have some SAN-ATOgen Tonic Wine left over from my 50th last week, so I'll send it by carrier pigeon. You never know when it might come in handy.
Have a wonderful day!
