that's my boy (and girl)...

First things first: profuse apologies for my lateness posting this. Since getting home from hospital last week Wednesday I have totally failed to engage with the outside world, instead living in a surprisingly blissful bubble of mummydom. But here he is, miniature Corvette #2, aka Ben, and for good measure here's his big sister, aka Leila (not pronounced like the Clapton song, in case you're wondering), looking like a cute-chip. Ben was born in the early evening on 3/3 - the same birthday as saneshane's son, I discovered today - weighing in at 6lb 11oz, and since then has done such proficient eating that he's already put on 7oz and counting. Apart from a few typical toddler outbursts, including a tendency to claim any presents given to Ben as her own, Leila has been unspeakably brilliant about his arrival in the house: she's learned that when he cries it means either hands off my nappy or more food please, she's trying hard to be gentle when stroking or cuddling him, and today she even attempted to swaddle him, by bundling a muslin cloth on top of his tummy. Awww... As for me, I've got my mum staying with me at the moment, cooking huge suppers, doing all the toddler nappy changes, scolding me when I don't have a nap, and generally being fantastic. Despite all her help, I'm basically knackered most of the time (note underlying quiver of dread at thought of her imminent departure), hence failure to get to computer before now. In fact, I might not have posted this for another month or two, except I got something utterly wonderful in the post today: the RR/Spill present. I love it! I so love it, I don't really know how to thank you because I feel a bit overwhelmed by your collective thoughtfulness and loveliness, and because words seem a bit inadequate for the job. So please accept a virtual bear-hug each, a round or two on me in the RR boozer, and of course my very most heartfelt thank yous to one and all. You're all magic. Off to bed now, but I promise not to be a stranger in the coming weeks - and this time I mean it. Thanks again xxx

Congratulations, Maddy! Glad to hear all are doing well (Not sure Leila should be kept in a cage though).

One of each! Well done - congratulations - and to Mr Maddy as well. You have two beautiful children - how long before we see you all on tour as a classic rock four piece?

Maddy: I just re-heard Paul Simon's 'Father and Daughter' and gave it a good listen, it brought tears. Apart from the gender issues it's a perfect song for the occasion, Lets just rename it 'Mother and Son' and add it as a ps to the CD's.
It goes without saying, warmest congratulations to all four, stay calm and come back when you're ready.

Congrats, and grab your rest while you can. When I had my second, a friend who already had two kids said I bet you think your workload just doubled? LMAO, he said (although this was pre LMAO days of course), the workload increases exponentially.
My crest fell.
But, he said, so does the joy.

Enjoy

(and, by the camera angle, looks like Ben took the picture of Leila-not-Layla. Clever kid already.)

Wow! The kids are beautiful! Congratulations to you and Paul on the new arrival. So glad you liked our little project and hope you get a chance to listen to them all (and sing along with some of them to the little ones!)

We're very proud of you Maddy! Well done!

Laser-guided donds for what tincanman's friend said, Maddy.

Wholehearted congratulations to the entire Costa clan.

And re your mum's impending departure- well yes it's also true you'll miss her help, but take it from me, that one is nowhere near as scary as arriving home with your firstborn to discover that your house doesn't have a *CALL NURSE* button next to baby's/your bed !!!!! Remember that feeling? Well this one's a breeze in comparison, because your mum is now attached to your house by an invisible bungee (Ben-gee??) cord.

Damn that I haven't found this until one in the morning ... is it too late to wet the baby's head? Mmmm, I don't actually have to drive anywhere in the morning ... ach, where's the good stuff?!

Here's to the very good health of you and yours, Maddy: cheers!

Oh, and it's something I have to do at work on an almost daily basis, so I'll be the one not too embarrassed to ask:

If Leila isn't pronounced as in (D&tDs) Layla, is she a (Dr.Who-style) L-ee-la, or a(n, ulp, Oasis-inspired) L-eye-la?

maddy costa said...

thanks again everybody! little man resting and dr who-style leila (judging by a dictionary belonging to my father-in-law, such was the accepted pronounciation in the 1950s, which rather appealed to me, especially since paul refused to call her my favourite old-school girl's name, dulcie) at nursery, so it's time to attempt to deal with the email inbox, glad i checked in here first though. i recently bought a 4CD set of rembetika so the house has been a bit greek lately, but that's now been officially booted off the stereo. hurrah!

It's all been said above, but I'll just add my congrats aswell. Great pictures. Can't advise on having two children - one's enough for us. Must be time for another nap (that's you, Maddy, not Ben!).

I feel like the one who gets the office card to sign after everyone else: there's nothing new to say! It's my own fault for only just checking in here.

But anyway: many, many, many congratulations and very best wishes indeed, Maddy. Long may the bliss continue.

Fantastic news - what a beautiful and impressively coiffeured young man and great to see the newly-anointed boss of the mini-Corvettes as well - wishing wonderful times to the whole Corvette dynasty x

Huge congratulations Maddy. Two fantastic children and all the best from all the Snadfrods. Like Chris its my own fault for not checking earlier, but I missed Japanther's Britpop disco too and am gutted about that...

I'm with Toffee and the dram. Cheers.

Two questions, though:
1. What was the final tracklist on the gift?
2. Quite off topic, does anyone know anything about good primary schools in SE London? Me and Mrs Frod are in a bit of a panic station...

Maddy, my congratulations to you.

He is lovely.

Another Johnny-Come-Lately offering belated congrats. Fantastic job there, Maddy, and great to see the pix. Cigars are in the post, yes?

Maddy - just a final comment from me on the CDs - I thought you should know that they were indeed an authentic RR production - like all the best A-Lists they were entirely untainted by any ToffeeBoy contributions - but the thought was there...

Blimey, Toffee, and I thought I was having a barren run!!

;o)

By the way, people, who nommed Creed's With Arms Wide Open? I keep shoehorning that into RR topics, usually to a resulting embarrassed silence, but noticed someone got there before me on The M***y Project (or can we now openly refer to it as M.A.T.J.?)

Very belated congratulations from MummyPig & me. It's bringing it all back, the broken sleep and the worry that child #2 will wake child #1. But do enjoy the little baby months, they're soon over aren't they ? xx

Even later (and it's not cos they haven't got computers in Texas, because they have), many many congratulations Maddy and family - he looks like a proper poppet!

I saw that Louise Jameson in Carnaby Street once...
