The future is grim gremlinfc...

The top image is one of my fillum faves - it's from a poster for a fillum which deals with the future...
The second is yours truly ina fillum which got about the same reception as the novel it was adapted from...my hat never quite fitted and that raight got me nerves. Here's the scores so far from me various posts:
1. FrogPrincess has 3 points (Matrix/Hannibal/ Sex Lies & Videotape)
2. DarceysDad 2 points (Dirty Harry / Barcelona Camp Nou)
3. Goronimmel 2 points (Capetown spot / Beautiful Mind)
4. TatankaYotanka 2 points (Poll Tax Riot spot / Gold Head sculpture in Jardins de Luxembourg)
it's all up for grabs...

The top one is Naked Lunch, n'est-ce pas?

The Naked Lunch is your first one, as I'm sure everyone knows.
And is the second Westworld?

BalearicBeat said...

'Tis the sequel, Futureworld, methinks.

has that second one ever been used as an album cover?? If not, it should be!

'Nother nod for spotting The Naked Lunch from me.

And I haven't seen Futureworld, but may well have guessed at that because the "technology" is very Westworld but I don't recognise the scene.

BalearicBeat storms it as if from nowhere and pulls level with DsD +Gord + Tatayo into joint runner-sup with some serious fillum knowledge!
It is the sequel to "Westworld" (Yul Brynner's last fillum no less)and didn't go down too well though the poster is ace.
As for the Naked Lunch - has anyone actually seen it?

@Blimpy - just be patient my son...

Seen The Naked Lunch?

Actually, no I haven't if I think about it. So why is that picture from it so familiar to me?

Got me thinking now, Gremlin.

I'll have a ponder whilst I have a (fully-clothed, mind-altering-substance-free) lunch.

@DarceysDad - maybe your fully-clothed, mind-altering-substance-free lunch comes too late my friend...or maybe you have been leaving your body again...does the sexy lady on the left look familiar?

DarceysDad said...

Erm ... that's a lady?! When was the last time you had those green eyes checked?

Never having read the book either, I'll have to take your word for that, gremlin.

I've read the book and seen the film, grem. I thought Cronenberg did a good job of visualising Burroughs' hallucinations, whilst shaping whatever plot there was into something that sort-of hung together. I'm not sure anyone else could have done it; David Lynch would probably have made it even more weird.

I agree Chris - i seem to be one of the few people who have actually watched the WHOLE of it and did enjoy it: your idea of a David Lynch version is quite appealing...

As you're a film buff, grem, I'll tell you about my current albatross: Synecdoche, New York. If you liked Being John Malkovich, Adaptation or The Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, you'll love Synecdoche as it gathers those ideas up, adds many more and then puts them together in a package of symbolism, humour and philosophy that is superb. Can't wait to see it a third time (but it's virtually disappeared from cinemas already).

Yes, heard good things about it and hopefully off to see it Saturday...really liked "Eternal Sunshine" too, but have to say my fave fillum of late was a French effort "Il y a longtemps que je t'aime"...

Let me know what you think, grem, it is definitely a Marmite film. But if you have the Kaufman taste already...

"Il y a longtemps que je t'aime" was a belter too, albeit in a completely different way. My favourite 'foreign film' of last year, I think, along with Gomorra.
