Music for when it's past your bedtime....

Er... I hope this works. I've been meaning to do this for ages, and having requested some favourite pianists from GoneForeign, I realised I should jolly well have a go. Apologies to DarceysDad that my first post is 2 jazz tunes, but they're both accessible in an after-hours, bluesy kind of way.

I've mentioned Thelonius Monk a couple of times before on RR; I nominated his version of Jerome Kern's "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" for songs about eyes & seeing. He had a way of playing tunes, making up the rules, and sounding like nobody else ever. Art Blakey's pianist was Bobby Timmons, and "Moanin'" is his composition. The tune sounds like moaning, in a good way, but by the time we get into his solo I'd say we were cooking.

PS. - I've added a bluebell picture from Middleton Woods, Leeds, on Sunday. I'm trying & failing to make the space below smaller without deleting the Podbean and would be glad of any advice....

DP: Nothing on your Podbean, scroll down the 'linkety links' and somewhere there, there's some fairly specific instructions how to load music.

Both tracks playing OK for me now, DP - and a very classy couple of tunes.

Thanks May1366, just about to check out your list.

And thanks GoneForeign for trying, I noticed the display was expanding to show the tunes & then contracting again... Hopefully it's OK now, I did follow the specific instructions but it was 'after-hours' !

DP: did you see the documentary on BBC4 recently (you are in the UK aren't you?) about Monk and Pannonica Rothschild? Fascinating stuff. A modern day patron/muse who also kept Charlie Parker from destroying himself sooner.

DP: Podbean's OK, it sometimes disappears for some reason as it did yesterday. Listening to your Monk right now, thanks.
Chris: Those Rothschilds are a funny bunch for 19th cent capitalists, several oddballs in there.

No apologies necessary, DP, but I can't get PodBean to work today, so I haven't listened yet.

Aha. Working now. Back in a few minutes ...

Middleton woods look nice - it's not far from the in-laws but I never get round to going. Must try harder!

Ali, What left an impression on me was how loved and cared-for Middleton Park and the woods are, in the middle of an area which has a bad name.

D'sD, I see from RR that you've managed to listen... Is Darcey properly better yet ?
