Northern Social

Judge Smith as 'The Climber'

No, no ... not that Northern Social, it hasn't happened while you weren't looking ..... slightly further north.  As mentioned on the Mothership.  I was in Bergen, Norway last weekend for the premiere of Judge Smith's new songstory, 'The Climber' and was unmasked by RikiNadir who had flown over for the event.  We had in fact met before ... but had never twigged that we share an RR habit.  So, great show on the Saturday night, Judge Smith, 12 man male voice choir and a double bass. The piece was being recorded the same week and should be out by the Autumn.  Next day, up the mountain for a restorative walk ... where this picture was taken.

Cool! Good to see you, gents. Lovely coincidence.

Hope to meet you properly at a UK Social soon.

On the subject of which, I can't see RobF getting out the calligraphy pens and invitation notelets anytime soon, so . . .

WHO'S GOING TO GET ONE ORGANISED, HUH?

COME ON, COME ON, I HAVEN'T GOT ALL DAY: A VOLUNTEER WILL TAKE ONE PACE FORWARDS . . .

Nice to know you had met each other before.
I think the location is the bone of contention, so why don't we plan for two socials now, one soonish in London/North, one in late summer in North/London.

TatYo: I was intrigued enough that you went all the way to Norway to hear a performance by a bloke I'd never heard of; so I googled him and have just read his life story, very interesting, do you have any of his music that you could post? And so that's what you look like, always wondered.

I bet there was a LOT of Peter Hammill talk! I'm not so familiar with RikiNadir's RR nominations, but judging from his moniker....

@ GF I've never tried putting music into a Spill post ... could bung some bits in the Dropbox .. you ok with that?

@ Japanther ... well, late on Sunday night, over the most expensive rounds of drinks any of us had ever bought (damn those linje akvavit chasers), the conversation did turn to the Thin Man and his new album, Thin Air, due out on the 6th June. Are you getting to any of the Tokyo shows? May well get some world premieres of the new stuff.

@ NOTtincanmanNOrWAY ... coming in here with your impossible to decipher pseudonyms and yer cheek, me and Riki are the perfect tag team, 6'4" and 5'5" .... you won't be doing stand up comedy much longer if we catch up with you ...

TatYo: Podbean's not hard once you've gone through it once, there's directions here, but drops ok also. Thanks.

TaYo - would love to go to one of the Tokyo shows, it's an intimate gig in a venue which is one the birthplaces of Japanese jazz (!!) which is just a ten minute bike ride from my place, with a free "fan after-party" where you can meet the great man afterwards...but...but at 62 quid a ticket, just a wee bit out of my price range, unfortunately.

@ Japanther one day you'll be rich and he'll be dead

The argument Madame Yotanka applied to her recent purchase of Leonard Cohen tickets ... at around the same price. Pfft, who needs food every week?

Errr .... Every 4 hours, ... me!
