OUTDOOR MUSIC FESTIVALS

There seems to be quite a bit of interest in outdoor music festivals, they're very popular here also. Here's three happening within about 30-40 miles of where I live, all in gorgeous sun soaked wine-country: there's lots more, many free. I hope you can read the line-ups on the posters.

And then there's this one, just for TFD and Ali, Sorry I could post their poster, google em.

THE KATE WOLF MUSIC FESTIVAL

Welcome To The Kate Wolf Memorial Music Festival

In June of 1996, the Kate Wolf Retrospective Concert was held to celebrate the music of Kate Wolf. Her friends, family, and a sold-out crowd had such a wonderful time that we decided to make it an annual event. Thus was born the Kate Wolf Memorial Music Festival. Here are some photos from the 2006 festival. Kate's family invites you to come to the next festival. We hope to see you there.
"A sweet little secret on the annual music map."

And if you could pick one of these acts to see, who would it be?

For me, although I don't know all of them, I am torn between Emmylou Harris cause she's just so good and Ramblin Jack Elliot 'cause I've never seen him before.

Goneforeign - this looks marvellous, I think I'd pick The Blind Boys of Alabama because I've no idea what they do but they sound interesting! Thanks for the post - I'm just going to empty my piggy bank.

I couldn't pick just one off that list.
We do a mini open-air festival where I live (the Schroederstift in Hamburg, it's a kind of commune-gone-wrong) and I'm usually responsible for the kids' programme. BUT this year, mrdebbyjr has got his first ever official gig with his band, opening on the big stage at
2 p.m. Saturday afternoon. So anyone with twenty quid to spare for that nasty ryanair, get yourselves over here on July 11th (the drinks are on me)!

You know treefrog, I kinda had a feeling one name might stand out on that list for you. On the other hand, you can see him near home.

The Blind Boys of Alabama are a highly decorated gospel group of ever evolving lineups.

Maybe goneforeignb knows more about some of the other acts.

(Mind lately as soon as you get a good thread going someone has a cat tragedy)

If you've seen the Wire, the Blind Boys did the opening song one year, think it was the second. I recognise about half the names on the Kate Wolf festival as I'm sure many others must, wouldn't mind going to that one. The Sierra Nevada as well as being my favorite beer always have a good line up, this year I think I'd pop for Saturday, Michael Rose, Sly & Robbie, Heptones, Abbysinians, Itals, Michigan and Smiley, etc, you've just talked me into it.

Tell them to turn the sound up so I can hear it in treefrog's suitcase

Great, amazing line-up for KW fest..
Some of the lesser known folks:
Rita Hosking & Cousin Jack.. they call her the quiet thunder. Roots, in the vein of Gillian Welch and Hazel Dickens...

Sherry Austin Band-from Santa Cruz doing a Kate Wolf song set... folky/country/americana.....

Joel Rafael has done a Woody Guthrie set in the past there. Americana....

Po' Girl are from Vancouver.. nice harmonies.. modern rootsy..

Joe Craven is a multi- instrumentalist and percussionist. His joy on stage (and off) is infectious...

I know I've seen some of the others, but I know I've scrambled some of the bluegrass band names and faces (poor man's whiskey, crooked still, hide the whiskey)

This is my favorite festival.. very good vibe.. the best line up for my taste in music..

the Blind boys are great.. their personnel shifts around, I'm told..
