And I'm Afraid The Covers Are Coming On ...

Haven't done a mini-playlist for a while. Here are a few of the songs I've recommended today, together with a mystery track which I'd be interested in your opinion on.

Wonderwall
Jump
He'll Have To Go
L.O.V.E. Love
Ms Jackson
Mystery Track

Hey, a cover of a Mary Poppins song! I kind of like that. Who is doing it? I liked Wonderwall too. Ms. Jackson, though...I don't know...part of me wanted to dond it, but most of me just...can't.

I can remember hearing this version of "Wonderwall" and feeling like i'd been hit by a sledgehammer(of the Timmy Mallet sort) - it's awesome and totally puts Oh aye Sis to shame , showing them up....sheer quality. Wasn't James Last cool too...

@ steenbeck - since it's quite in here at the moment, let me just sidle up and whisper that the cover of Feed The Birds was by me and a friend. He did most of it (apart from the vocals by his girlfriend) and I did the rocking guitar solo. Glad you liked it and apologies for the poor quality recording.

@ gremlinfc - it's a truly magnificent version, isn't it. And I think it fits the 'unlikely' aspect of the theme well enough. Who knows, I may be on for my first A-List since the whole Land Of Grey And Pink 'incident' - and I won't even be around to enjoy it ...

@ steenbeck - aw, shucks, you're just saying that!

@ gremlinfc - or were you being ironic?

Toffeeboy--I meant it sincerely. Um, a few weeks ago, after the social, people were talking about a track you'd played on, if I'm not mistaken, and I'd been away and then when I got back and tried to download the social CDs dropbox got weird on me and most of the CDs didn't download properly and I only got one or two to work. AHem--could you dropbox some of the other stuff you'd played on?

@ steenbeck - I'm flattered by your interest but I'm afraid it'll have to wait for a couple of weeks - I'm off to the South of France first thing tomorrow and not back until the end of the month. If I can, I'll send y'all a digital postcard.

I wish I could say "I'm off to the South of France first thing tomorrow"!! No worries. And I just realized I never put the go-betweens referencing B&S tune in dropbox, so...at the end of the month...

I was being ironic about James Last (he was omnipresent in our house early-mid 70s and created a dreadful wall of sound , pierced occasionally by Johnny Cash , George Hamilton IV , Carpenters and Glen Campbell) but GENUINE about Mike Flowers : i think the guy is / was genius with his covers.

Oooh, I thought the Feed The Birds cover was someone like Isobel Campbell, lovely job Toffee! I particularly like the song cos my nan's maiden name was Freda Bird and I used to sing to her "Freda Bird, tuppence a bag" to make her laugh. Bird as in Bird's custard, though the wrong branch of the family to actually have any money...

Tracy, I used to know a bloke who, when asked how he was, always replied 'Box of birds' (= fine). One day he said it to the grocer, who responded by putting a packet of Bird's custard down on the counter in front of him...

...you're not related to a Winifred Elsie Kathleen Bird b Barnet 1908 by any chance, are you?

Not that I know of, my nan was one of a huge family born in Brum, mostly in the 1920s. Why, could be be distantly related? That'd be fun! The folk gene is definitely from my mum's side.

when I was kid I had one of those weird kid fixations with Mary Poppins, I watched it countless times, and I swear, the night before this post appeared I had a dream that incorporated a lot of elements from the film, mostly the joke-telling/laughter scene! An inspired choice of tune to cover Toffeeboy!

Ms. jackson was cool too

TracyK: since posting that I've found that the relation in question was not all she seemed, so I'll have to get back to you on that one.
