Thank you!

I'm sorry about this post, I know it's ridiculously silly and very late, but I've been listening to my Steen Chain birthday mix, and enjoying it sooooo much. And it's months later, and I don't know how to mention each track I like, because there are so many, and I don't want to leave anybody out. But I just wanted to say that I love it. I really do. And thank you all so much.

And...I liked Blimpy's subtle reflection of himself, so here's one of me, and if anybody else wants to post one, I'd be glad to see them...

Cool picture, and you're welcome but special thanks should go to the person whose idea it was. That was Tin, right?

steenbeck said...

Yes! Massively big extra special thanks to tinny and Shane, too.

You look very young in your reflection if I may say so...

Steen: That's absolutely not what I imagined.

Holy hippy, shane! Great picture, though, love the little creature, and your shirt, and the colors. Thanks for posting. Come on 'SPillers one and all!

Gremlin, it's Dorian Grey's car window.

Goneforeign... should I ask what you expected?

Oh, and Shane, it's David's shop--where he makes furniture. They haven't locked me away yet.

Duh me, I didn't look closelt at all and thought it was in a subway window from a trip to New York or something.

Steen, I knew I'd dig a hole for myself by saying that, I can't really say what I thought but it's like the situation where you listen to someone regularly on air and are then surprised when you see what the voice looks like.
I'm more interested in David's shop, way bigger than mine, what sort of gear does he have? Did I ever mention that I used to make furniture, still do a bit.

After my first glance I thought it was a reflection in a train/subway door aswell.

@barbryn, Very nice. Is that your latest baby, born a couple of months ago, or (if I remember this correctly) is it an older sibling?

barbryn said...

@gordonimmel - it's Daughter #1 in this photo, taken almost exactly two years ago. I've aged about 10 years in the same time.

I've added some pictures in response to various comments...

Blimpy, it's a scion Xb, but I believe Toyota is the parent company. That's it in the new picture I posted. I know Malcolm was wearing that shirt in the last picture, but I swear, he does own more clothes.

Tincanman--that's a picture I didn't intend to have a reflection of myself in, but it's in the real NYC, not the not-reachable-by-any-actual-subway New York. And it's not a subway, it's a chess shop. Malcolm likes chess and I wanted to show him this set...

Goneforeign, He has it all, I think, band saw, table saw, mortiser, planer, 54" lathe, I don't know...tons of stuff. He's a furniture maker, but he's doing cabinetry at the moment, and in the background you can see a kitchen for somebody that owns an entire building on 19th st. in Manhattan. Must be nice... I think you'd have a lot to talk about with him GF, he also likes old cars. He owned 3 VW things, and I think he's planning to buy an old BMW motorcycle, but I'm not sure.

I think I'm slightly relieved to know they are chess men. I thought it was a trophy shop and thought, if it was me, I'd miss the net a lot.

Chessmen (sorry, chesspeople) art can actually be quite amazing. Some of the designs are so lovely, I think every time I captured a piece I'd just pocket it. Mind, I'm such a shit player, I wouldn't need big pockets.

In my youth I made a chess set for my Dad based on the Battle of Waterloo (did I ever say I was obsessed by the battle of Wa......oh, yes I did didn't I. Anyway).
Using rough hewn blocks of wood as the bases (they were rough because that was as good as my carpentry skills ever got) I stuck little model soldiers in the uniforms of the French and British armies on top - Flag bearers as 'Kings', Generals as 'Queens', foot officers as 'Bishops', ordinary cavalrymen as 'Knights', artillery pieces as 'Rooks' and infantrymen as 'Pawns'.
Infact stirred by this memory I've just gone off to check and I realise I have it in my posession. If any body shows any positive interest in it atall I might post a picture.
Ofcourse,if you tell me where to shove it.....

I want to see!

I'll show Malcolm.

I don't know much about chess myself, so Malcolm taught me, and he plays a fast and furious and not altogether trustworthy game.
