Free music in Manchester

It may be considered bad manners to use the spill to promote things but I think I can get away with this as 1) it's free 2) it's all in a good cause and 3) it's a damn fine day out. The annual Exodus Festval takes place next Sunday afternoon (2nd August) at Urbis & Cathedral Gardens in Manchester, directly outside Victoria train station. As well as being the source of my nom de blog Exodus is the arts project I help manage in Greater Manchester, working with Refugee and local community groups. There'll be two stages featuring contemporary and traditional song and dance from across the globe (including Congo, Afghanistan, Kurdistan, Zimbabwe, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Iran, Angola, China & all points elsewhere) international food stalls, workshops & kids activities. More details can be viewed at http://www.can.uk.com/exodus/exodus_latestnews.htm

hope some of you can make it - if you do come and say hello, I'll be helping to man the outdoor stage, in a 'CAN' badge & unfeasibly long (approaching ZZTopness) goatee.

I'd love to come, exodus (and there I was thinking that festival had been named after YOU), but I'll be missing a 50th birthday in Geneva that weekend...

Hi

I don't if there's etiquette or even rules about promoting things but personally, I'm glad you put this here. I mentioned another charity event a little while ago and nobody objected.

Sounds like a good gig. I'd go if I could. Instead, I'll mention it on Twitter. Thanks.

Cheers, Caitlin

How much of the "children's activities" are going to be suitable for a 3 and a 7 year-old, exodus? If the weather holds, attending is up for serious consideration in the DsD household.

I'm getting an Error 404 - Page Not Found when I try to follow the links for the festival flyer.

There's paper craft, clay sculpture, painting, west african drumming, & Nigerian head-dress making, as well as tai chi, african dance & indian dance indoors - activities are designed to be suitable for all ages, and the festival always has been very child/family friendly, so hope you decide to make it.

The link just worked for me when I tried it. Alternately you could go to www.can.uk.com & follow the sidebar link to Exodus.

Weather and flu permitting, I'll be there with a couple little ones (children). I won't be taking them to see a west African being drummed though.

Sounds like a blast, Mr. Ex, best wishes for lots of sun to go with the sounds. Glad to hear about the goatee, the much anticipated Frod beard was something of a let down, if recent pics are to be believed.

Ta for all your comments - hope to see DarceysDad & Tincanman there. Drumming a west african is optional.
