Mother's Pride

I realize I can bore for England on the topic of my kids, but this time it's something special (honest, guv). I've mentioned before over on the Mothership that mrdebbyjr writes his own songs, and I may well have regaled you all with tales of his fearless performance in a packed pub at a party a couple of weeks ago.
Last weekend was the little summer festival we run in the Schroederstift (that's the place we live) and Sam and his band played their first ever gig, Saturday afternoon up on the main stage. For 13 year-olds on their first outing it wasn't half bad! They sold every single copy of their recently recorded CD, and that at EUR 5 a pop - there's hope he'll earn his own college fees yet...
The sound man was great with the lads (they'd never even done a soundcheck before) and made them a little recording of their set. Unfortunately it seems to have gone on holiday with the Young Master, so I'm going to try and upload one of his solo songs (they're all I can find on this computer). So, this is Sam & his magic pedal (many thanks to tincanman for patience & technical information)

My Dear Cousin

And this is the band with a track off their CD (but I'm not sure if this is the final mix!) available to anyone interested in about a month's time, courtesy of Proud Mum
Shark in the Jungle

P.S. Just in case anyone starting up a RRecord lable is interested in this (hint, hint) - surprisingly enough they're not signed yet!

And now I've gone & done the dropbox so's you can't just click on it and have music magically appear. If anyone knows how to correct this for me, please either let me know how, or feel free to DIY if that#s at all possible.
I thank you.

How exciting! Every kid's dream come true. A proper gig with a proper band. Onward and upward.

It's always lovely to hear someone bursting with pride over this sort of thing.

Cheers, Caitlin.

Well done Sam! My nephew's in a band but as he's 36 now it doesn't sound so exciting. But he's been playing since he was your lad's age, and still loves it! good luck!

He's very handsome, DebbyM! I love the picture. I can't get these links to play, but I've heard his music before and liked it very much indeed. I'd be glad to hear more when you get the chance to post it.

Debby, I can't get the links to make anything play either, but it may well be me ...

I think I'm going to email you some musical advice you can give your son.

@ Steen & DsD
First of all, thank you both for taking an interest! I've just been over to the Dropbox and reposted the links: I can't see that they read any differently to before, but they play for me. (They're in my PUBLIC box - that DOES mean accessible for the rest of the world, doesn't it?)
Off to check my email now, Rich!

Nope, still can't make the link work - in fact it just sits there as text, it isn't even turning onto a link.

I think I must be missing something.

But actually, Debby, I don't think going "Public" works that way. I think you may have to create a new folder within the RR Dropbox.

We could ask the fount-of-all-knowledge known as tincanman, but I think he's off out to the daytime gig at sonofwebcore's allotments today.

The-fount-of-all-knowledge-known-as-tincanman talked me through how to post this, and he definitely said to put the music in *my public* dropbbox. I just did the Ctrl C + Ctrl V thing on those links and they play for me...
The band song is on their myspace site, so you'll probably have heard that anyway. But I really like 'My Dear Cousin' which Sam hasn't given the band yet - he wrote it when he came back from a holiday with his German cousin (the childless Auntie invited her niece and nephew to her house in Greece: all right for some!) Although the kids are the same age and live in the same city, they've never had much to do with each other, and I think Sam's quite happy to keep it that way

Debby, you are nearly there.. Chris had a good suggestion for embedding links, do the following.
1. post a new comment on RR, on the mothership.
2. Type the name of the song you want to link to on The Spill, for example My Dear Cousin.
3. Now select these words, and hit the "link" button in the control panel of the "Post your comment" dialogue. It is immediately above the area where you type your message.
4. A pop-up will appear; insert the hyperlink for your dropbox file here, and click ok. A piece of code will have been inserted into your comment, starting with <:href= etc.
5. Now copy this entire piece of code out of the comments box, and insert it directly into your Blog post on the Spill. Try a preview of it, you ought to see the song title appear as a playable link.

You can now cancel your RR comment.

Hope this helps.

Herr Hippo,
du bist wahrlich wunderbar!
Still took me two goes to get it right (I've always wanted to know how to do those blue links) but now it works.
Thank you!!

Update for people with nothing better to do than scroll back through pages & pages of 'Spill: a guy at the festival liked the band so much, he's asked them to play a gig in his record shop which is JUST ROUND THE CORNER from that club the Beatles used to play. I am VERY excited!
