There's something that I've been aware of for some time which I suspect is shared by others, and that's the fact that there's often several postings here with musical clips attached but little response in the comments. This could mean that nobody bothers playing them, which I doubt, or that once played no one bothers to comment, either way the poster doesn't benefit from any feedback.
Take this week for example, there's 32 songs listed from Podbean and Deezer: there's only 5 comments.
Youtube has a better batting average, there's 7 videos with 14 responses.
I doubt that this shows disinterest but it would be nice if there was a system that at least showed activity at a musical posting, which were getting played etc. Is that a possibility? Any other thoughts or ideas?

I don't think we should take it personally, GF. For example I listened to your playlist this morning, but had nothing to comment in particular, often because i already knew some of them. I agree it would be nice to have a counter like on youtube, but that's not necessarily anyone of us (not sure what the stats are now, but a couple of weeks ago, we had 677 different people browsing on the site).
I also agree that it's always nice to get feedback, but at least the lack of it keeps me on my toes, and I'm currently thinking of a Gainsbourg instrumental that others might like, since it looks like I was wrong about the ones I posted.
We're a tough love bunch, well 'ard.
I find that there's too many to listen to, unless I'm particularly intrigued by something or know I like someone's taste. Nothing personal, except the board moves pretty fast, and I don't have as much time as I'd like to sit around and have a ponder.
Same for me - I actually listen to most of the stuff but don't have time to comment. Let's not let it discourage us! The blog is very very lively and that's all the better! But it was good that you made the comment, GF, as the same thing had occurred to me too.
Oh and to take up Ejay-s point - Blimpy Webmeister - can you publish a little gadget on the side of the blog that you'll find here http://www.compteur.cc/ which will tell you how many visits we've had in a day, where they are from and who is one line? Just a thought.
I often don't comment because I feel like I'm really bad at talking about music, and I've thought, no one wants me saying, wow, I really liked that, because it doesn't add much to a conversation. But I suppose even someone saying that lets you know they took the time to listen, so in future, I'll do that.
Um, it's all french to me....
It doesn't bother me if no-one comments on something I post, I would not personally be interested in the visitor statistics either to be honest, I don't consider that a gauge of the quality of the site. I think one needs a pretty thick post-it-and-leave-it skin to be a blogger anyway, and not to invest too much personally in getting a response. I listen to most music on here, and some of it I will simply have no interesting response to, just as many of you won't be able to come up with a response to what I post. I think it's fine to accept that. One thing I might try more often is the sort of post Blimpy does, just commenting on something without necessarily posting music, to see if it sparks a conversation.
1056 different people have now read our blog.
The other thing I was thinking was that on the weekends, I'll listen to something here and reply to it on the actual guardian RR blog, sometimes by simply donding it, sometimes with a comment. At least we don't get cruel comments like you read on youTube. (I like what TracyK said about that the other week, I think it involved broken fingers) I can't imagine logging on to express DISlike with anything.
Looking back, the posts that have the most responses are those that pose a question at the end.
Aren't they?
blimpos fossilios
Blimpy, I'm not getting emails any more!
Neither am I!!
oh dear, something is amiss!
is anyone else not getting the emails?!!?
maybe it's a glitch in the blogger system, as I certainly haven't changed the settings.
i'll look into it!

I'm still getting them
I'm still getting them too
I actually haven't been getting them since the first time everyone was taken off, but I didn't want to make a fuss. If you're putting people back on, though...
I'm getting them, over a hundred in the last 36 hours actually! Is everyone having a slow work week?
i think it just goes to show how interesting our blog is.
as for a slow work week? hmmmm, as my job is a gift from the heavens, i'm not sure really even if i can call it "work", apart from the fact that i have to go to the same place 35.5 hours a week (flexi, natch).
