There IS something blooming in my garden after all. We got this witch hazel last fall, because they bloom in winter, which seemed so hopeful. And here it is, blooming, in winter...
It does, but you have to get quite close to the flowers to smell them. We were inspired to plant it because of a witch hazel tree in the Boston Arboretum. There would be snow several feet deep on the ground, and everything would be bleak except for this explosion of yellow flowers. And since the tree was big enough that we could stand under it, the scent would just surround you. Ours is young, yet. Someday...
