VERY GOOD, EVEN THOUGH I DON'T KNOW ANY THAT'S THE SORT OF INTRO'S I HAD IN MIND. THERE'S A COUPLE THERE THAT ALMOST SOUND FAMILIAR, I'LL AWAIT THE THRONGS EFFORTS.
Yes, Rudie Can't Fail, Yes, Oh My Golly (that was for you, Saneshane, thanks for getting it), yes Ain't Got No... I don't know what Cocky Rabble is, and that is London, by the Smiths, which I kept hearing every time Sloop John B played on Blimpy's quiz, and which I've always thought would be one of the few songs I could get on one note. So that's almost halfway there... THe picture is from a children's book I'm trying to make about a boy who is sent to his room so often that he angers his monster, who is only allowed to come out when the boy's not in his room, but he's ALWAYS IN HIS ROOM!! It's a very cranky monster. I've only got three pictures. I have trouble finishing things.
I think I was afraid of making it too easy and made a couple of them too short. If no one gets them I'll expaaaaaaaand them. Sorry, No Beck, No Concretes. Yes to Rudie Can't Fail
Do like the artwork and the story sounds good. Do hope 'oh my golly' was the only one for me..I'm not getting any closer to the other 6..are we going to kick ourselves?
I could identify London and Sloop John B, the accelerating drum roll reminds me a bit of a great track by Mahavishnu Orchestra called One Word, but it isn't that. Otherwise I'm stumped. Some of the clips are pretty short (but making them longer wouldn't help me, I'm guessing) Picture is great- reminds me of the Bugs Bunny cartoon "hair raising hare"- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cSDAqyuu48 Don't go up there! It's dark.. (3.50) Nilpferd jr knows this one off by heart.. the fingernail scene is particularly brilliant...
Nice to have decent pauses between the clips, but I still got no further than Sloop John B. More practice needed... And I'm looking forward to your booklaunch - should sell shedloads. Move over Maurice Sendak...
Nilpferd to the rescue again, Hair raising Hare just headed off a tantrum in everyone in the house. For an early clue--Blimpy wasn't far off with the Pixies for #3, there is a connection.
nilpferd-that has to be in my top ten monsters! love it. sb- have you done the monster? or is it one of those imagined things ?
blimpy- have you heard 'African Rhythms' by MI AMI (it was passed on to me this week and I thought you might enjoy http://www.myspace.com/miamiamiami cleared my ears out!!!)
Sorry, not twist and shout. I have drawn the monster, though sometimes I think I shouldn't have. I tried him a lot of different ways, but he kept returning to this one monster, so that's what he is. I'd post a picture, but I'm not sure how to without making a whole new post. I feel like such a little kid--listen to the song I wrote! Look at my picture!! look at the transforming robot I made out of legos!! I had just spent too much time on the intro quiz and grabbed any picture I had ready to go...
I think I overdid it a bit on Nilpferd's one so I'll take a back seat this time.
I’ll give you a clue though: I was listening to The Write Stuff (book quiz show on Radio 4) this afternoon; apparently in Hans Christian Andersen’s ‘The Red Shoes’, the little girl gets her feet cut off (perhaps that's why her shoes are red) - those fairy tales can be a bit grim (sorry), can’t they? Anyway, coincidentally, part of the lyrics for Track 8 here go: “Somebody cut off her feet/ Now the jelly rolls in the street”
Thank goodness for this one, I thought I'd have to turn in my Spill membership after blank stares at the other quizzes. Some of the ones I knew have already been gotten, so I'll just add that it's The Breeders with "Hellbound" and I also heard Fugazi's "Waiting Room". Yay me! Yay Steenbeck!
A few clues--I was sure TracyK or Blimpy would get #2 in a second, and #1 in related in a few ways. And #9 was for Ejaydee, which is probably a big clue in itself.
Sorry, it was London, not Panic, I always get the too confused because that noise sounds a bit panic-y, but I thought it was Sloop John B didn't think you'd put it again. So, no you haven't been wasting our time, it's really hard!
Loved the Lupe video. He's come a long way from little skate punk, no? The whole Kanye blog looks interesting. BIg Boi's doing a ballet!?! Yes, Spottieottiedopaliscious! although I'm not sure I can spell it.
Here's a clue for one and two...band #2 have a song about band #1. If I have time I'll make the samples a little longer, if this clue doesn't do it.
It does look like Teepees. I'd love to see it, I don't see why hip hop and ballet shouldn't go together. Not that I know that much about ballet. And I did spell it right! without looking.
And to amend my clue, the song's not about the band so much as a boy from the band.
Someone did recommend it, but it didn't make it into the final list. I know Blimpy and TracyK like the band (#2), but, upon reflection, they might not be familiar with this song--it's not on an album, it's from an EP. Both bands 1 & 2 are from the same geographical location, approximately, that BmcF now inhabits.
The song is Love Detective. What's Islands? I only have one album by them (the red thread). Sorry I was out for the evening. But here's some closure, eh? All ten tracks DONE.

I thought I heard Sloop John B again
I heard Nina Simone's Ain't Got No (I Got Life) and the whistley one is the Smiths, London. Tricky...
The Clash Rudie can't fail is there and I hear Sloop John B too
I thought I heard Come Up And See Me by Cocky Rabble at one point.
pixies 'oh my golly!'
i'm rubbish at this ..but they would be my only chance at a specialist subject
Deja vu for me steenbeck - once again I ended up with the words Sloop John B written on an otherwise blank sheet of paper!
Great picture btw - what's it from?

First listen:
1. Beck?
2.
3. Pixies?
4. Rudie Can't Fail - The Clash
5.
6.
7. Sloop John B!!
8. Concretes?
9.
10. God that's familiar
I think I was afraid of making it too easy and made a couple of them too short. If no one gets them I'll expaaaaaaaand them. Sorry, No Beck, No Concretes. Yes to Rudie Can't Fail
Cocky Rabble used to be an NME joke name for Cockney Rebel. But clearly it wasn't them anyway so the bijou joke-ette was a trifle pointless...
Severin, more like a good joke wasted on an ignorant american...
Do like the artwork and the story sounds good.

Nilpferd, we've moved on, have you seen Knightmare Hare? He's talking old jazz greats...

Could 8 be 'Twist & shout'?
Three has the hand of Kim Deal in it, but which song?

Baron of worcester-cister-chister-shyster shire... Merlin of Monroe.. Earl of Hines.. Brilliant!
@saneshane - nice recommendation, thanks! a bit nippy at first, but then it locks into a good groove.
steenbeck, do you know Not Now, Bernard? That's got a boy'n'monster too.
I think I overdid it a bit on Nilpferd's one so I'll take a back seat this time.

If that helps.
if this isn't the place for.. look at this, listen to this...my brick robot kicks butt.. don't know what is!
My kids book has a 'whale of mass destruction' in it (about 5 pages drawn so far)
Throwing Muses/breeders/belly if it's got to the Amps i'm giving up now..but I should know..
bed now...hope there's no monsters
Mr. DNA who are you? You got it. What a good song, NO?
Someon'e used the song for a beautiful tribute to their wee puddy tat pal!!!

Beaten to it! I was just going through my Breeders records, grumbling to myself.
A bit more of Waiting Room, and I woulda got it, honest!!
Yay catcher!
I'm the first person to get the Velvet Underground one? She's My Best Friend, isn't it?
ok no I'm not...
El Derino, you're the first to SAY it, and that's wot counts. Not many left now, I think.
A few clues--I was sure TracyK or Blimpy would get #2 in a second, and #1 in related in a few ways. And #9 was for Ejaydee, which is probably a big clue in itself.
I haven't seen the answers yet, but I recognised Rudie Can't Fail, Panic by The Smiths, Spottieottiedopaliscious and I Ain't Got No by Nina Simone.
Sorry, it was London, not Panic, I always get the too confused because that noise sounds a bit panic-y, but I thought it was Sloop John B didn't think you'd put it again. So, no you haven't been wasting our time, it's really hard!
Lupe Fiasco as an internaional playboy in the 40's: http://www.kanyeuniversecity.com/blog/index.php#post193330
Number 2 has been bugging me: I may have to draft in the bloke again..
I can't listen to it now, but I think that's the right spelling.
Are those teepees I can see on the stage for Big Boi's ballet??! That blog is quite surprising indeed, there's often some good stuff in there.
It does look like Teepees. I'd love to see it, I don't see why hip hop and ballet shouldn't go together. Not that I know that much about ballet. And I did spell it right! without looking.
And to amend my clue, the song's not about the band so much as a boy from the band.
I'm still getting nuffin for #1 and #2.
Drat it all!
Is it one of these?

Someone did recommend it, but it didn't make it into the final list. I've lengthened the first two.
Is 2 a remix?
If no. 2 is Belle and Sebastian, I'll eat my hat!!!
Not to my knowledge. It's not a typical sound for them. It's got quite a good animated video, so when everyone gives up I'll post a link to that.
Start eating, McFlah!!
your covers blown!!!!!!!!!!!
It is indeed!! Posted above.
***munch munch**** this hat would be nice, had i not just filled up on my hot smoked salmon ceaser salad...
i've listened to every B&S track I own, and then some!!!
what's left and what are the clues
Arab Strap is it????
either arab strap or felt?
Sorry, Blimpy. Yes, it's Arab Strap.
steenbeck is the song 'islands'?
I've only got the demo version..Blimpy help!
hold tight shane, the mushrooms have just kicked in!!
(in "Performance", that is...)
the drum loop does sound a lot like the one in "Islands", yep!
And to think my initial guess was Beck!
top work, shane!
Looks like I'll have to trade in my indie-chick club hairclip...
The song is Love Detective. What's Islands? I only have one album by them (the red thread). Sorry I was out for the evening. But here's some closure, eh? All ten tracks DONE.
