Help!

Hey Spillers!
I need your help!
I have to come up with some music video ideas, and I thought I'd throw it out to you all for suggestions. I'm sure between the collective Spill brain we can come up with the best music video of all time.
Here's the demo:

The budget is pretty minimal.
Ready, steady, GO!

Play Me!

****edit**** still no joy on the techy front, sorry folks - it's jazzy pop though!!

Funnily enough I'd had a video idea for the RR luck theme this week, but too late for that one now.

Don't know either point-of-reference-song you named there, Blimpy, so can't help with anything mood-appropriate I'm afraid.

How much snow have you got? How much time? You could try some stop-frame (if that's the term) animation in the melting white stuff.

What's the song about?

Probably out of your budget, but what about instuments that play themseves & a singing microphone?

For a lower budget, how about a video of the band playing the song on the Rockband video game?

You should to-tal-ly shoot it in the style of Godard's Masculin/feminine...So, black and white and the band in hip 60s parisian clothes. But you should have elements in color,, and they should all be things that POP! Bubbles, balloons, um...crackers, champagne corks, weasels.

I like Steenbeck's idea.

.. do you want a Spill Monster clip?

I think I may post a cheeky link to a demo copy of the song, as long as you guys don't tell anyone!

i have to eat my supper first tho'!

In the meantime - keep the ideas coming- this is solid gold!!

Sounds like De Phazz.. jazzy backing and female singer.. so take a look at this quite nice vid for The Mambo Craze,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsHY_4RW0_Y
which is certainly inspired by the great credits to Dr. No, by Maurice Binder..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5jjYLsh1V4

I'm thinking your vid could perhaps start where Binder leaves off during the congas section, with the superimposed, dancing silhouettes..

And I have to take issue with that "backing track" crack.. you are talking about Herbie Hancock's Cantaloupe Island here!!
Some respect, please!!!

Plus I'd love to see Steenbecks idea realised, too..

sorry nilp -i posted in total haste cos my coq au van was getting chilly - i have now updated the post to let the demo speak for itself, rather than my immensely lazy comparisons. i really just shoulda said jazzy pop and been dun wiv it.

How about creating a massive, life-size turntable and have the band play atop a huge vinyl album, whilst spinning? The movable members of the band could all have to continuously dodge the enormous stylus as it constantly inches them inwards toward the drummer, stoic and spinning on the middle of the disc.

Is it a funny tune? If not I have an idea 'inspired by' Schindler's List...

steen - your idea is immensely close to the one I'm currently developing, like 97% the same!

Can't see any way of accessing the track as things currently stand. I've actually just been commenting on a video that my stepson and mates had to produce as part of their uni course, and my major criticism was that their images didn't seem to connect at all with the music in anything other than the timing - so I don't know that I can say anything useful without more of an idea of the music...

the current situation is that I'm gonna be making a video for this track pretty much whatever happens - so it would be ultra cool if the end video was a result of the Spill, imagine when it gets posted up!!

i have to provide 'em with lots of ideas to choose from, so the more the merrier!

the music is coming -boxstr is being a shit just now!

Blimpy said...

@ejaydee - heartbreak, i think, it's mostly la las y'see?

Blimpy said...

boxstr - grrrr! why is it the one time i actually need a track up in a hurry that there's no dice. i may have t attempt a podbean, and i've not done one of those for about a year!

Another idea that's very low budget is as follows...It's based on the principle that in humans there remains a vestige of some kind of prey instinct...so that if somebody is watching us, we become aware of it.
You wander the streets of some scenic city with a video camera--some travelling shots from a car window, some on a bus or a subway. People will (hopefully) glance at you as you go along. Most likely they'll just look away again. You can do it with some kind of artsy tint, if you like. Then, later, in the editing room, you take the moments where each person is making eye contact with the camera, and you freeze it for a few seconds--you stretch the "only connect" moment. If it worked, it could be quite poignant.

Blimpy said...

god i wanna strangle someone - BOXSTR you terrible $%^&* and podbean ain't playing ball either!!!

saneshane said...

I just downloaded "Yahoo webplayer......." not the song I'm guessing!

snadfrod said...

Nope, Boxstr is a no go isn't it? The one night I have access to the Spill AND tunes...

Blimpy - how about creating a monochromatic pencil-drawn comic book world through which your dashing, bequiffed hero bursts in real, vibrant colour to seduce the lucky lady of his meta-fictional dreams? The track could feature some ace synth.

Whats's that?....

Oh.

My bad.

Jazz makes me think of colour and rhythm so I'm thinking of shots from a moving railway carriage looking into bright sunlight, e.g. when you can see the 'shadows' of the train windows making moving stripes across the different colour fields in open country. Could work well on snow if you had the right light - with sparkly bits. That's my effort.

Amazing suggestions all round, esp considering that I couldn't play you the music.

I'm going with Steen's first suggestion crossed with the split screen style of nilp's crossed with the style of blue note album sleeves and a little bit of saul bass. and to keep snad happy, feature a record player (i have a great 60s one that can go in)

I may post up the treatment once I've written it properly on monday.

oh, and frozen eyes too -why not?
