In the jingle-jangle morning

Me'n'Bob set out for work this morning, and I wondered whether the bit of foam I'd found in the cupboard would cushion the camera against the engine noise. Seems to work!

Ooh, dawn - haven't seen one of those in years. Works well, and lovely scenery - did I see some surf?

Another beauty, TFD--the dark silhouettes of the trees, the unbelievably pretty colors of the dawn. The landscape looks very otherworldy at sunrise. And the sound was good, too.

Thanks all - it's great to be able to drive to work in daylight! No surf though - mud, more like.
Plus, I'm extra happy today as the Wimbledon fairy has waved her wand and given me 2 centre-court tickets for the men's semi-finals...

'Spillers luck's at work - yesterday I got 2 tix for No 1 Court on the 2nd Tues, and I rarely get anything in the ballot. Now to start saving up for the strawberries & cream!

Nice one TFD. Now all you need is a little rain and Sir Cliff to serenade you all. No seriously I'm very very pleased for you - it's a brilliant thing to do. I saw Navratilova kicking five kinds of sh-te out of her opponent when she was at the top of her form - on centre court. She did a brilliant smash and I cheered very loudly. She looked right up at me and grinned broadly. I later heard her say in an interview that she always felt the crowd wasn't rooting for her because of her sexuality and she often thought 'c'mon guys, I'm busting a gut out here'. Perhaps that's what she was thinking when she grinned up at me - 'OK so SOMEONE up there likes me'. My dad actually managed to purloin the balls from a Lendl/Conners match and we played with them on our local courts - complete with grass stains and all. A little tip - just take your own strawberries and cream, won't you? At about £6 a shot, they're very overpriced. By the way, am I showing my age here? You lot DO remember Navratilova, Lendl and Connors don't you??? (Whimper)

Now FP, stiffen that lip and stop whimpering. I'm old enough to remember Rod Laver. My dad had been a county player back in the 1920s and even played once on the hallowed turf in a qualifying round. He knew a couple of the stewards and we used to go along in the afternoon mid-week, back in the days when you could get a seat on No. 2 court without queuing, and before you knew what was happening, he'd bump into an old mucker and we'd be in the front row on No. 1 or the Centre Court. Ah, those were the days! Whimper!

Eeeh! Rod Laver! Now that takes me back. Lovely memories you have - do you play too? I used to until a back operation sort of buggered my ability to run fast. I could still stand on a court and welly balls back and forth though! My old tennis teacher wore Long. White. Trousers. Was called Mr Harland and was a real old sweetie.Generations away from today's young whipper snappers. Still think Nadal is sex on two legs, though.

Tennis was the only sport I was remotely interested in PLAYING - not that I was any good but quite enjoyed posing at the local tennis club...love watching it though and these days I take Wimbledon fortnight off work and sit in a darkened room. Annoyingly enough I've only been successful in the ballot since I moved to Scotland. Still, it's an outing.

No, I don't play. Hampered by bad astigmatism, my instinct is to duck and cover my eyes whenever a ball comes near me. Contact lenses sorted out the eyesight when I was twenty but too late to develop any ball sense.

Subsequent back troubles too, ending in a discectomy (sp?), have ruled out a lot of activities as well.

Lordy, you've been through the mill a bit too. Hope your back is OK and giving you no trouble whatsoever. I've been there too so I know what it's like. And donds for whoever invented contact lenses, eh? The 'ball sense' is taking me back to that Rammstein vid....
