In Every Dream Kitchen A Heartache

Dream Kitchen The campaign to gain international recognition for the genius of Tim Freeman's Frazier Chorus is on the brink of succeeding. Well, a couple of people on the Readers Recommend list seem to feel the same way as I do and that might just be as good as it gets.

I've put together a playlist of five songs with a domestic setting - inculding two from Frazier Chorus's stunning debut album, Sue.

Apologies for the quality of the EBTG track - a very scratched and warped 7" single is to blame. Hopefully this will not affect your listening pleasure.

Also on the playlist, my two favourite unfashionable singer-songwriters, Gilbert O'Sullivan and Dean Friedman.

Hope something here ticks your box...

Looking forward to hearing the Frazier Chorus songs. When they first got mentioned over on the mothership, it rang a bell - half an hour of searching later, I discovered a 7" copy of "Typical" and have been meaning to investigate more ever since hearing it again. In conclusion - cheers.

I was really looking forward to hearing "Dream kitchen" after reading about it on the mothership, but it strikes me as somewhat trite on first listen (ducks and runs for cover........!)

Should i spin it again?

@ blimpy - go on, give it another go. It's always difficult (if not impossible) to remember how you felt about a song that you now love, the first time you heard it. Also, I suppose, it's very much a part of the album to which it belongs (almost - dare I say it? - a concept album) and perhaps it doesn't stand up so well on its own.

Anyway, I love it and I don't care what the rest of you think, so there!

PS. I do care really...

oh they're wet and wimpy..just like me..my 'sloppy heart' 12" with Anarchy in the UK is great!
my Dad always asked is this 'Common People' when I played sloppy heart.
my copy of 'Ray' has 'the baby album' mixes with it.
It ain't going to convert many people to their charms though is it...but the lyrics have a very dark edge to them...when you investigate...

Fan club might not expand (much) but do we care..glad of the post.

I'll own up to never having heard Frazier Chorus before.

They are an 80s/early 90s thing?

I have to admit not my thing really, a bit like an Orange Juice or Prefab Sprout tribute band to my ears.

I am not into any of the twee type bands, I have never understood the appeal of Belle & Sebastien either, although I love The Sundays and Mazzy Star, who I think are much darker.

@ carolebristol - Orange Juice? Prefab Sprout? Belle & Sebastian? You've just name checked three of my absolute faves!

Go on; Come over to the light side, you know you'll love it!

ToffeeBoy, do you live in Scotland? Because there's a programme about Postcard Records and Scottish pop from the 80s onwards that includes Orange Juice.

It's been on BBC4 already, but I can't get that. Sunday 9pm, BBC2.

tfd - no I don't live in Scotland but strange you should ask I was born in Edinburgh of Scottish parents and my dad's still up there.

I must have missed the programme on BBC4 - I'll ask my dad to record it for me.

Thanks for the tip off.

I watched the programme, it was okay. As usual it didn't go in depth enough for my liking, but then I shouldn't have expected that in an hour's tv.

When I first heard Common People I thought it was a rip-off of Sloppy Heart. I wonder if Jarvis et al were actually aware of the song...

It's very late night, cosying up music - only a good thing.
